Asiana Club - Cancellation of Asiana flight...

Hello all,
On the 22nd of August I had a flight booked to leave SYD-FRA via ICN... now I had been informed that I would not be receiving a complimentary hotel stay so I had booked for one nights accommodation at the Doulos Hotel in Seoul.
When I arrived at the airport, I was told that the ICN-FRA sector was full and I was being transferred to a Qantas flight later that afternoon. When I enquired about cancelling my hotel they said they would look after that, believing I had somewhow booked it through Asiana. Needless to say I had booked through a hotel booking agent and so I cancelled my reservation, and then received a few days later a letter stating the hotels policy to charge me 95000 Korean Won for the cancellation of my stay.
Now it was NOT my choice to be bumped off my flight, surely it is up to Asiana to re-imburse me for the missed nights accomodation/cancellation fee? I'm not sure what I am entitled to in this situation as it has never happened to me before so any input is much appreciated.

Sorry if I misunderstood you: you arrived at ICN on August 22nd and were supposed to take ICN-FRA on August 23rd, but that flight was overbooked so you were transferred to a Qantas ICN-FRA on August 22nd, i.e. without the overnight stay you expected?
If that's the case, it looks like Asiana did a splendid job taking care of you as a traveller. I'm not sure if you are entitled to the hotel cancellation fee reimbursement since you definitely had a choice to keep your hotel reservation by refusing Asiana's offer and to ask for a replacement flight the next day (August 23rd!), but you didn't.
Yes, I know that you didn't because you believed Asiana will somehow take care of everything but sadly it was a big misunderstanding overall. I just don't think only Asiana would have to take responsibility for what I believe is a mutual misunderstanding.

No, rather than flying SYD-ICN-FRA on OZ they booked the OP on QF5 SYD-SIN-FRA without the stopover.
Now if you would have flown with OZ you would have taken longer and paid for a hotel stay.
Now it took you less time and you paid for a hotel stay. So you are better off. However, you can still try to claim the hotel stay based on the fact that you might have had some business or so in ICN which you were not able to do anymore because of the involuntary re routing.
Also note that EU law applies in this case which doesn't give you anything as you arrived earlier than scheduled and not later.
In general I would say OZ has done a great job in your case.

mmmmm, I can see where you're all coming from... I got to fly on a better airline and I arrived earlier...
However when I arrived in Frankfurt I was unable to change my flight that evening to London which gave me a 14 hour stopover in Frankfurt which I hadn't intended on. The reason I had picked Asiana was specifically to have the night stopover and arrive at a more convenient hour into Europe to minimise jetlag for me.
I am on a fairly strict budget so to have $200 taken out of my budget (hotel price in the first price and then the cancellation fee which was more than the room cost in the first place) has put a dent on my budget which I hadn't really intended on... but most people seem to think that I won't obtain any kind of compensation from Asiana so I guess I just leave it at that!

You should pay the cancellation fee instead of the room price and I would refuse to pay any cancellation fee that is higher than the actual room itself. Besides that 95k won is ~81$, can't quite come up with your math of 200$.

Sorry, I was talking in AUD... it's basically $170, sorry for not giving a more exact figure before
Booked the hotel through a hotel booking site so they just charged the cancellation fee straight to my credit card, unfortunately I had no choice in the matter... it's just a complete pain in the butt situation... but now I know there is nothing I can really do about it, let's just all leave it be
