WestJet has introduced a new check-in procedure in YVR in which the passenger is to do baggage tagging themselves. Essentially, the kiosk prints the tag, and the passenger is to place it on their luggage themselves.

Apparently it is to be implemented in airports accross Canada.
My question: is this truly going to speed up the rate at which passengers check-in? Should Air Canada follow suit? Do other carriers have such operating systems? Is this more consumer-friendly?
Not sure if this is old news; I just saw it posted on YouTube from WestJet but cannot find any press releases regarding it.
Cheers!
