WestJet Rewards - WestJet Introduces New Check-in Process

WestJet has introduced a new check-in procedure in YVR in which the passenger is to do baggage tagging themselves. Essentially, the kiosk prints the tag, and the passenger is to place it on their luggage themselves.

Click here for an instructional video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1UgHtduUJ4&feature=feedu)

Apparently it is to be implemented in airports accross Canada.

My question: is this truly going to speed up the rate at which passengers check-in? Should Air Canada follow suit? Do other carriers have such operating systems? Is this more consumer-friendly?

Not sure if this is old news; I just saw it posted on YouTube from WestJet but cannot find any press releases regarding it.

Cheers!

Yes, this is old news.

The link posted is over a year old and the system was being tried in airports for years before that.

I don't normally check bags, so don't know if AC or WS came out with this first, but I know that AC has had self bag tagging for quite a while now (even at YEG).

I tried it for the first time a month ago with AC and thought it was quite efficient.
