Delta SkyMiles - When FAs Comp Drinks...Except Yours

I was the only one in row 19 who forked over a credit card today.
I won't give the flight number - the FA seemed like a decent guy. He bought three rounds for one uniformed soldier (I would have, too) and quietly poured free adult bevs (one each) to three pax he obviously knew.
He should have at least acknowledged the fact I witnessed all that.

sounds like a missed opportunity to make a new friend. FAs like that are good friends to have. There is a GA at EWR that has comped me into the PC twice for being nice and "volunteering" for bumps.

I was at a bar the other night and some guy bought a round for everyone but me. Maybe the OP and I are invisible.

Maybe the FA was committing an infraction.
Not much different from a store cashier failing to ring up an item a friend was purchasing.

On the recent flights I've observed, the guys in uniform did not accept the offer of comped alcohol. I thought one of them reminded the FA that it wasn't allowed since they were in uniform. Be that as it may, if I saw everyone else getting comped except me, I would try this, "Oh, I thought it was comped on this flight, I'm sorry, I don't have my credit card where I can get it, just make it a club soda." It might get you a comp as well. And if it doesn't work, oh well, your liver is happy, ha ha.
But, as I say, I haven't had to try this. Seems like it would be pretty nervy for the FA to comp everyone around you except you and expect you to just quietly hand over your credit card -- but since you DID quietly hand over your credit card, well, that's kind of your fault, I guess.
I'm pretty much a believer in equal treatment unless there's some compelling reason why not. Maybe the guy in uniform is flying home, maybe the other folks are co-workers out of uniform flying home...I have no idea why they're getting comped and you're not. But as long as goodies are being thrown around like Mardi Gras beads, I'd make at least a token attempt to catch a freebie myself. :)
Oh, here's a funny way to get a comp or at least a double. Guy next to me gripes that the bottle is too small. Me, I thought airline mini's have been the same size forever, but he acted all surprised and said, "Gosh, that's really a small bottle." After awhile the FA came back and comped him a second bottle. Not saying it'll work for you, and not saying I would be that nervy, but it worked for him.

I'm guessing any FA leader has the discretion to privately 'buy' rounds for 6 people and collect money from the 7th. One answered a trivia question about the contents of the recorded safety message and others were acquaintances and the uniformed soldier. A rockin' & festive flight in row 19.

I think FAs do have discretion and there is nothing wrong with deciding to use that discretion to offer comps but I also think it's pretty damn rude to comp everybody except you in an entire row, and I would not get out my credit card in that situation. I wouldn't be "in your face" about it, but I would not give them $7 to disrespect me either. If it ever comes up, I'll try the "my credit card is packed away somewhere" gambit I mentioned above and see if it works. So far, I've never seen everyone else get comped and they don't comp me. I've seen where the FA is talking to "friends" and comp them, but then she sees me looking and gives me a comp too... Knock on wood...
A lot of time now if you have a printer when you check in from your house or hotel, you'll get a free drink coupon, but of course we don't always have a printer.

I walked into a bar and sat down and the bartender was giving free drinks to a couple regulars and their friends. I had to pay for my beer.

Nail, head. I guess it doesn't cost anything to start a New Thread on Flyertalk...well, except time.

So some soldier has been in Iraq for 9 months and is at the end of his 23rd hour of travel going home to see his family on leave...who is gonna call him/her on having a beer or two?

I'm sure nobody is (unless an MP is on board).....the question was asked and I answered it.

I agree. You answered the question that was asked and you answered it correctly. It is against regulations for a person in the military to drink while in uniform on official government travel.

They are allowed to consume alcoholic beverages while in uniform. It may be that either they do not drink alcohol or would be driving when they arrived at their destination and did want to incur a DWI.

Easily found in the SCs, on RCs and GAs.

Not in ACUs they aren't (some small exceptions are made, such as unit functions). If they were rocking some Class As or Bs like the good old days, then sure, so long as they aren't traveling in a duty status.

Or, you could just take your own mini's and ask the FA for the setup only. ;)
