I was just wondering how successful people have been in redeeming awards in FB. I don't remember specifically all the miles I have redeemed but I know in the 3 years I have been with FB I have redeemed approxmiatley 125,000 miles with flights in Y.

How many miles have you redeemed? In total or this year.

Only had one redemption in the last 12 months - 4pax from different points in Europe to DFW on Promo awards in J at 25000 each ^

Absolutely no problem on short European hops, even on less then 24 hours notice (can't do that on M&M). Come to think of it, though, AF availability seemed pretty restricted, even a long way out. But KL always seems available.

Managed to nail a Promo Award to Vancouver last year (Business D class on KL), which was really good. I booked it as 2 one ways, outbound and inbound.

I did a search but I did not find the answer. Are we suppose to get miles when we use an award ticket.

I just used my second ever, and still no miles into my account. Which for me is usual--over 50% of the time I have to mail in the boarding passes to France.

Speaking of whcih I am waiting for 3 tripos to be credited. But it IS august in France. You suppose they are on holiday?

No, europa13, you don't get miles for award tickets. Getting miles for tickets paid by miles would be a bit strange, wouldn't it?

Intra-European flights have always been very easy to redeem, even on very short (ie one day before) notice, no complaints on that front...

Yes, intra-European awards seem fine, though I avoid those because they are poor value IMO, at least ex-UK.

I easily got AMS-AUA in biz for 2 on the dates we wanted. Iceland decided otherwise, so the miles are back in the account.

On the whole, I have found it next to impossible to get biz awards on the days I want UK-US, often weeks with no availability whatsoever and even then via FCO on the return. AMS-CPT is impossible. JNB-AMS is often only available with KQ, so no miniatures.

But Flying Dutchman had other parameters altogether with better availability all round. Ah, sweet memory.

Booked 4 x J MAN-CDG-LAX return for next April as soon as the 10 month window opened

Very happy, and surprised to get exactly the dates I wanted, particularly for 4 tickets. 107,000 miles per ticket which is a lot but it works out at about $0.035/mile redemption value which seems ok

Intereseting that it was 50K miles outbound and initially there was no availability inbound. When I called FB they said there was inbound available at 57K miles - presumably some inventory just for PE?
