There is a reason why all the Japanese ladies wait until they're in Hong Kong and Singapore to buy cosmetics and luxury goods - and they buy like crazy when they're not at home. rjh Aug 11, 10, 7:46 am Once again this reminds me of the usefulness of a global arbitrage site for common stuff that travelers try to score at duty free. I used to look globally for the cheapest perfume, real LV bags, Mikimoto pearls, 24K gold jewelry with decent clasps, etc., while taking into account true cost after initial local cost, any VAT/refund, exchange rates, and so on. I guess you'd want to factor in the VAT refund hassle, which can be painful (CDG), just a pain (SIN), or not that bad (BKK), etc. Braindrain Aug 11, 10, 11:27 am While NRT is notoriously high, SIN isn't much of a deal either. They come out to almost exact US pricing, minus the taxes. Europe is, by far, the better deal. frensbuy Aug 12, 10, 10:01 am Im from SIN. I agree with Braindrain. Europe is the best for those brands. SIN is only cheaper from relative pricing to the Japs. tide Aug 12, 10, 5:33 pm Im from SIN. I agree with Braindrain. Europe is the best for those brands. The term "jap" isnt derogatory there. In fact, it's very commonly used. [bolding mine] ??? see this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jap) |
