I'm hoping to get some advice for hotel recommendations and things to see and do in Barcelona. I'm traveling for a week in November with my partner and my mom who is turning 80. This is our gift to her so I really want it to be special. I was able to secure Bus.class flights with miles so that part is done, yay!

As far as hotels go, I want to be centrally located but not directly on or just off the Ramblas. Actually, I was thinking about a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom rental property rather than 2 hotel rooms. I've only done this once before in Paris and it was great.

For things to do, what are the must sees? With a week I think we should be able to cover quite alot but I don't want to push too much.

Also, we'd like to have one really nice dinner to celebrate. Any ideas? It doesn't need to be ultra fancy, just really good food of course, and a nice atmosphere.

Hey !

http://www.citadines.com/en/propertylisting.html
They rent appartments, this one is located on the Ramblas, but there is an access behind by the "Plaça de la vila de Madrid", this is a calm square. I think you should ask for an appartment with view on this side. This is ideally located, you will find taxis at every hour on the Plaça catalunya (200 meters) and you're just between 2 subway stations. The Ramblas is the last place to visit in Barcelona but this is central, so if your mom has 80 y.o, better not to walk a lot...

For the things to see, I think you will find it in many guides... Sagrada Familia, Palau de la Musica Catalana, walk along the port in the Barceloneta neighborhood, the Cathedral, the Guell park, the Passeig de Gracia avenue with Gaudi buildings, the little streets of the Born neighborhood, the Montjuic park, Plaza España... I can't give you any advise, it really depends on what you prefer. See monumental plazas, or small streets, parcs...

For your good dinner, I recommend the Comerç 24, Calle del Comercio, in the Born neighborhood. Catalan/spanish/ nouvelle cuisine made with fresh products and an incredible taste. Book at least 2 weeks before. You can try the "degustation menu" with many courses, it's really good. Around 100 euros per head. Contact me if you want a cheaper one.

Enjoy your trip !
Bye

Thanks Jullien, just the type of info I am looking for. For the dinner, Comerç 24 seems to get mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. Any other recommendations?
Thanks.

May I also suggest: www.vrbo.com

Look for an apartment in the Eixample area.

This place also seems to have good reviews: www.urbansuites.com

Wow, that's rough. I don't quite get the attitude. I have no idea why you seem so offended by my noting that Tripadvisor had mixed reviews. (It was rated 161) Odd reaction for a forum where travelers ask others for opinions and advice.

Thanks ceejaykay. VRBO.com must have a thousand apartments so I'm sure I'll find what I'm looking for. Urbansuites.com seems to be for Calgary, Canada only.

Barcelona is a great place, esp. liked the Gaudi heritage.

But, it is a pickpocket, purse snatching fiesta. Be very, very careful.

(5* hotel @50% discount) at Hotel Claris. Same hotel group, Derby Hotel Group also has short-stay apartments.

I was in Barcelona last month. We stayed at B Hotel, which was excellent, especially given the price. I think the rate incl taxes was 115 euros/night (booked through Tablet). The roof top bar is fantastic to chill out and have a few drinks at before heading out for the night.
