Hi Folks
Last Wednesday I flew LIM to UIO, was due to have 4 hours in Quito, then come back UIO to LIM to make a connection LIM to BOG arriving at 4am Thursday morning.
At LIM I showed them my itinerary and asked if the suitcase could be sent to BOG, they said no, I would have to collect them in UIO. I thought OK, I will collect it and check it straight back in.
I arrived in UIO and they called my name, asked me to speak to a guy waiting on the airbridge. He said he noticed I was going back to LIM, would I like them to send my bag back to LIM? I said can you send it to BOG? he said yes no problem.
I went back to LIM on the same aircraft after it had been to MDE and back, sat in the same seat and the same FA gave me the same LANwich. I then went to BOG and my suitcase didn't.
I filled out a PIR form, the LAN girl took my luggage check ticket and wrote a cellphone number on the PIR. I really thought it would just turn up the next day. It didn't
I called the cellphone number and not once did they answer it, I have no AHL worldtracer number, nothing. On Friday I went to their offices in Bogotá and they placed a call to the manager at the airport. She said she still had not located the suitcase. I am frankly really disappointed with their service, I didn't want to waste an afternoon going to their offices because they don't want to answer their phones.
Apart from being a bit in the dark, I have a more impending problem, In 3 days I am flying to London with a different airline. I have no suitcase and no clothes.
What do I need to do? I am entitled to buy new stuff for my trip in 3 days? What if my old stuff turns up? Are a new suitcase and new clothes reasonable expenses? Will I be refunded for such expenses?
According to LAN's Terms of Carriage, they apply the Montreal Convention, that gives me more rights than the Warsaw Pact yes?
Further to that, do I need to make a formal claim? and how given that they don't answer their telephone or respond to my emails? I guess given I am going back to the airport on Wednesday I could at least have a chat with them.
Any advice would be much appreciated
