... have six hours to kill at CHC and am considering heading into Town for a few of them.

I have already seen the Antarctic Centre, as well as spending far too long waiting for a fog delayed aircraft to ZQN.

Are there any suggestions at to where/what to go/see/do?

It's a Sunday, I'm due in at 9am and departing 4pm.

Is the Christchurch Gondola still running? If it is, just a matter of the bus schedules matching up to get out there on a Sunday.

Within a five minute walk of Cathedral Square travelling west, there is the Arts Centre which is quite popular, the Canterbury Museum and the Art Gallery along with the Botanic Gardens. If you can supply a date, I'll check local schedules to see if there are any worthwhile events.

Serty - here's a link to events in and around Christchurch this weekend. Still think the Arts Center is worth a visit if you haven't been before.

depending on weather conditions i would highly recommend to visit the arts center and/ or the botancal garden, which is phantastic and best choice to breathe fresh air before you get up in the sky again

if it rains why not taking a tram ride as city tour i remember they start at cathedral square and arts center is next stop

and when you are into meat at its best try hecks-german sausage (http://http://www.heck.co.nz/products.html) he is a german butcher and offers authentic and tasteful sausages, marineted steaks cold cuts and so on - 1 mile of CHC -airport

cheers

Thanks for the tips/link :)

The Weather forecast currently rain threatening (although it may hold off in Christchurch while I am there):

If its a nice day Mona Vale on the way to town from the airport is nice or a gondola ride on the Avon in town.

If the weather is not that good, the Art Centre, Art Gallery or Canterbury Museum.

Another vote for some combination of the Arts Centre, Art Gallery and Museum. These are all within 5 minutes walk of each other and close to Cathedral Square if you haven't been to the central city before. Arts Centre also has an excellent market on Sundays.

Enjoy your few hours in the best city in NZ

In my unbiased opinion of course :D

Yes, and well worth it on a nice day. Some decent walks to be done at the top overlooking both the city and Lyttelton Harbour.
