Pardon my whining, but I need to vent a bit of this frustration. Whilst travelling in Guatemala, I was alerted via FT to two current SPG promos, one for the Free Weekend Nights, and the other for 1000 AA miles for North American Sheraton stays. I did some quick calculating, and decided these two in combiniation would justify a major mattress run that would earn me some free high end stays, move me closer to Plat qualification, and with the 1000 AA miles offsetting part of the cost. So I fought through some very difficult internet connection problems to register for both (so I thought), and upon my return to the States, began reserving rooms at Sheratons.
Flash forward four weeks: I completed five stays of a planned nine stay mattress run, when I noticed in the FT forums that some members had already seen their AA miles show up, and I had not. So I checked...you know what's coming: no record of my registration for the 1000 AA miles promos, only for the FWN promo. In conversing with the guest services desk, I went with my most charming phone personality, but failed utterly. I asked for a supervisor, who was sympathetic but indicated they had no authority to retroactively register me. I requested an appeal to higher authority: so far not even an email response despite assurance I would at least hear back. Nada, SOL.
I failed here, no doubt. I did not confirm registration by keeping an eye out for email confirmation. I made an assumption. That's my fault. But I can't help but feel like I have been "rule popped" by a dual registration requirement while I very clearly, as my reservation history indicates, biased significant stays to North American Sheratons this month, and this month in particular.
When I'm feeling most petulant, it makes me want to do silly things like squeeze every penny out of existing stays possible. I have to fight the urge to throw clean towels on the floor and take the little sugar and cream packets just so SPG has to pay for new ones. I do fight these urges, but I can at least admit they exist, heh.
