We are two adult couples and one 6 year old travelling to San Diego in early August. I'm looking for a room with 2 queens or kings (not doubles) in a 4 star or better, price under $300/night and possible 2 or 1-1/2 bathrooms. We'd prefer to stay in one room but are finding that places like the US Grant are cheaper to do 2 king rooms at $160 each rather than the double king suite at $500/night.
Any suggestions for properties that have this arrangement?

You can ask for connecting rooms - it won't be guaranteed but it usually works out.

Check both Homewood Suites Liberty Station and Homewood Suites Del Mar. It has a two bedroom suite for $287 AAA rate (for date I checked) or under $200 for 1 bedroom suite. I assume you will have a car.

Try the Doubletree in Mission Valley and get connecting rooms. Their rooms with two beds are two queens.
Yes, you want a suite. I've not seen any non-suite rooms with more than one bathroom. I've also not seen any rooms with two king beds (two queens, yes). You really all want to be in one room?? Why not just book two rooms separately? Not sure how often you'd be guranteed connecting rooms. Best to ask in advance. Otherwise, go for the suite. You might phone some hotels. I've seen cases where suites or other "special" rooms don't show up on all routine online checks. We recently stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, and though the rate was $265 plus taxes, and that was a special convention rate, it had "just" two Queen beds and one bathroom. We later got a room at the Omni for $80 plus taxes through Priceline, but that was either one Queen or one King, and one bathroom. Suggestions given by other posters sound great. Note that some place say they have "suites," but mean they have separate sleeping and sitting areas, not always more than one bedroom, or a specific number of beds.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions - I actually had not thought about adjoining rooms - makes perfect sense though. In the end I got a BRG at the US Grant for $123/night which I think is an excellent deal. We'll have two rooms, each with King bed and I've requested adjoining rooms if possible. Looking forward to my stay.
