Good find, Emerald, for those who did not book DL and UA earlier.
$578 is LAX/Brisbane, R/T, with additional $150 to $200 in taxes, QF.
LAX/SFO to SYD/MEL is $678 plus $150 to $200 taxes.
Other cities ex-US with add-ons.

Looks like good availability in August. LAX-MEL for $803.10 AI with the A380 on the way back.

FARE CLASS = O (50% RDM and 50% EQM on AA)

Fare Code = OQF1FA

"FREE" STOPOVER IN AUCKLAND POSSIBLE (additional taxes?). Trying some pseudo-random dates I got
LAX-AKL (AUG 21)
AKL-SYD (AUG 26)
SYD-LAX (AUG 29)
to price for $847 AI.

Same dates replacing SYD with MEL for $830 AI

Cheapest I could find for 100% AA EQM (still 50% RDM) earning fare code was $1732 (better to wait for a good AA fare if you are doing this for AA miles, but you likely won't ever see anywhere near this price on an AA codeshare ).

I won't be biting on this one since I just got back from Australia this weekend, the cost of the positioning flight, and the 50% mileage on AA issue.

Also, if you aren't tied to OneWorld, Virgin has fares ex LAX for as low as $653AI.

I wish these good Australia fares weren't so "last minute." They're not really "mileagerun worthy" but they make good value vacation fares. I want to go for 2 weeks, but I need to block off that time in advance. I'm going to do that for next (northern) summer, and then (I suppose) play a game of chicken to see if I can get discounted tickets for my family. I wish I could plan a little more in advance, but I guess they're only offering the cheapo fares for "last minute" discretionary trips.

I tried AA Vacations for August 6-9 (1 night, 1 person) and I got the following prices (approx).

LAX-SYD cheapest approx $900-1000
LAX-MEL cheapest approx $1100-1200
LAX-BRE cheapest approx $1100-1200.

These were AA coded Q fares. Of course, the cost per night becomes cheaper with a long stay. As far as I know, these AA coded Q fares get 50% RDM & 100% miles.

Back in 2003 when I flew UA, I used United Vacations and I paid approx $600 for LAX-LHR UA RT with 1 night at the airport hotel. The cheapest price for air only was over $2000.

Bottom line: AA Vacations could be a decent workaround for getting AA coded flights when the AA coded air only price is quite high.

V Australia earns 100% RDM in Delta but does not earn MQM in DL.

For serious MRers only:
Windy City carrier ex SFO/LAX to SYD/MEL $ 595.00. K-class
Immediate turn-around. No over-night stay - no hotel necessary
LAX Aug 3 SYD arrive Aug 5 K-class
SYD Aug 5 LAX arrive AUG 5 K-class

IMHO *A miles more valuable than Virgin/ST

Good price for going to australia, but with that QF fare code, it is about 10cent/mile out of chicago, not the best MR

Do you mean 50% EQP? For I failed to understand 50% RDM stands for - Redeemable miles would be the miles earned, and you said 100% miles.

AFAIK, any fare class on AA flight number would earn 100% Redeemable miles, as well as 100% EQM, just not 100% Elite Qualified Points.
