Which is the best place to stay in Singapore? What about the hotel accommodations? Can anyone advise me on any online hotel booking portal in Singapore?
Budget Travel - Best Place to stay in SingaporeView Full Version : Best Place to stay in Singapore sofiajenisis Jun 22, 10, 5:00 am Which is the best place to stay in Singapore? What about the hotel accommodations? Can anyone advise me on any online hotel booking portal in Singapore? jbjelloid Jun 23, 10, 1:56 pm I've always had luck with the Hotel 81 chain. Not exactly budget but rather, moderately priced and comfortable. I'm sure you can google 'em for more info. dsgtc0408 Jun 24, 10, 7:24 am Hi, can you give a bit more information on your expectations and wishes? For budget hotels jbjelloid makes a good suggestion re Hotel 81. You can also look at Fragrance Hotel, and Value Hotel. You should be aware though that these hotels offer transfer or even hourly rates - a euphemism for 'you know what' sorts of activities. However this is not an issue in most locations of these chains except in the Kallang neighborhood of Singapore. You might want to look at hostel type accomodations - one that comes to mind (not a recommendation, haven't stayed there) is a hostel at Mount Emily; was written up in the Straits Times. Google for more info. Last thought - you might want to look at the Singapore subforum within the Asia main forum. There's a fair bit of activity in that subforum and most likely you'll have answers to questions you didn't even know you had questions about. (Mods - should this thread be moved to the Singapore subforum?) uaflyer64 Jun 24, 10, 11:48 pm I think it depends on where in the City you want to be too I stayed many times with far east hospitality They are typically half the price of the big chains and heavily discounted on travel sites. Would be interesting to hear about hostels there too, or equivalent crash pad Cheers albert987 Jun 25, 10, 12:17 am I will recommend Hotel 81, Frangnace Hotel and Broadway Hotel. First two hotels are 2 stars and the third one is one star. If you want online booking then just google over internet, you will get numerous web sites for online booking. Have a nice trip. dd1612 Jun 26, 10, 8:50 pm Which is the best place to stay in Singapore? What about the hotel accommodations? Can anyone advise me on any online hotel booking portal in Singapore? The best place in Singapore - low budget is the YMCA on Orchard Road. Literally located in the heart of the city - and accessible by MRT. Breakfast is hearty. For reservations here is the link: http://www.asiatravel.com/singapore/ymca/index.html On epoint to note: Singapore hotels are generally more expensive than hotels in other cities flo-e Jun 27, 10, 7:28 pm I liked the Waterloo Hoster (or Hotel?). Very centrally located. RichardInSF Jul 3, 10, 3:44 pm Curious, I never saw any electronic bargains in Singapore compared to what you can get if you shop around in the US. Was just there about 5 months ago and that was still true. If you want bargain electronics, try Shenzhen -- but it is very much "buyer beware" for electronics throughout China and South Asia. ung1 Jul 4, 10, 2:55 pm Singapore is really nice place to visit and why not a large part of their revenue is generated from tourism. Especially the shopping part. I must say people visiting there must shop there. They have some really cool electronic gadgets at a very low price. People generally get sort of money there. All I say that one must have some good amount of money for shopping in Singapore. Yes, I do find the US is cheaper than anywhere else for electronics. But maybe for someone visiting from Europe, Singapore is cheap by comparison. As for the OP, take a look at hostelworld.com for some ideas. Compared to other places in Asia, Singapore is very expensive, but you should be able to find some decent places. Telfes Jul 16, 10, 10:42 pm I often stay at 1 B&B Singapore. I have also stayed at the Southeast Asia Hotel -- great location, though room was rather dark, but otherwise adequate. sonofzeus Jul 17, 10, 4:06 am They have some really cool electronic gadgets at a very low price. Yep...just got my $.69 pocket laser from Singapore via meritline.com Armchair shopping...priceless. Richard Gill Jul 27, 10, 7:25 am I am not a frequent traveler but long time back when I visited Singapore with my family, I preferred Shangri-La Hotel. And if you are food savvy, it is a good place. I usually avoid electronics shopping outside of the US. EmailKid Jul 27, 10, 11:27 am I am not a frequent traveler but long time back when I visited Singapore with my family, I preferred Shangri-La Hotel. I've always stayed at Hotel 81. Shangri La is a very lovely hotel, but this is the Budget Travel forum ;) EmailKid heacp Aug 6, 10, 11:19 pm hostelworld singapore wandering_fred Aug 7, 10, 8:06 am The Fragrance and 81 chains are suitable for a quick overnight, the rooms are normally quite clean BUT VERY SMALL. Two people with luggage can be a challenge. I find the rooms at the Broadway (Little India) are larger but they have been upgraded from a much older and more basic hotel and sometimes the construction shows but are mostly on the clean side. Book directly for rates cheaper than the various websites. The S$150 range also offers a fair selection with nicer amenities and room setup though I think this category is mostly challenged on room size. The Perak Hotel is superbly clean and includes basic breakfast. There are hostels in Little India that are cheaper still but have not ventured there (yet). The airport transit hotel also works for 6 hours if you book far enough in advance. Happy wandering Fred |
