Florida - Singer Island (PBI) - thoughts for a weekend getaway?

Anybody have any thoughts on Singer Island as a getaway for a long week. Specifically looking to lay on the beach and relax....and maybe head to semi casual restaurants in the evenings. It seems like a pretty quiet place. Is there anything to do or would I need to drive to the mainland to do so?

How is the beach? It seems like it may be narrow but is the water pretty clear?

Thanks for any help!

Sailfish Marina on the island is a great place for food. You can also feed the fish there, take a water taxi to Peanut Island for some snorkeling, or just a water taxi cruise up and down Palm Beach.
Beaches are nice. There are a couple places to snorkel, if you like that. MacAurthur Park is a great park on the north end of the island.
You are in the middle of turtle nesting season, so you may see some turtles laying eggs at night.
Neighborhood before you get to Singer Island is not so great. But the Tiki Bar on the other side of the water has good music, good food.
What else do you like to do? West Palm Beach is a short drive away and you have City Place and Clematis street which has great shopping and dining.
Will you be there on a Thursday evening? Both Sailfish Marina and Clematis street have great music events.

pbiflyer...Thank you.

Mrs K7 and I usually like to sleep late...hit the beach...take a nap in the evening and head out to a nice dinner. Then maybe take in a nice casual night spot for an hour or two for maybe a drink. Maybe a little shopping in the evening (Sort of like St. Armond's Circle in Sarasota if you know what I mean). Maybe a movie back in town may be an option as well.

Seems like the water taxis are the way to get around. Are they very very expensive?

Sailfish Marina and Clematis St seem like a great place to start to venture out. I will definitely investigate.

Also - the beach/water should be nice and clear in June, right? Everything else comes after the beach :p

Glad to help. Water taxi (http://www.sailfishmarina.com/water_taxi.html)just gets you to Peanut Island, or a tour of the area by water. They do go to Clematis St., but not sure how late. Probably better to drive, definately quicker.
Info on Sailfish Marina here (http://www.sailfishmarina.com/).

Clematis By Night (http://www.clematisbynight.net/) if you are there on Thursday.

Clematis Street Shops/Restaurants/Bars (http://www.westpalmbeach.com/clematis/index.html). I like Rocco's Tacos for food. ER Bradleys is a long standing outdoor bar, though they serve food too.

City Place shops/restaurants/bars (http://www.westpalmbeach.com/cityplace/index.html) Closest we have to St Armonds Circle. There is a free trolley between City Place and Clematis St. The movie theater there has a bar, which is a nice touch. Comedy Club as well. Probably a 20 minute drive from where you are. Not the best of neighborhoods to drive through, but not horrible.

You could also head north on A1A to Palm Beach Gardens for food, drinks, shopping. Downtown at the Gardens (http://www.downtownatthegardens.com/)has the Yard House, home of 100 beers. New Mexican place has good drinks. They have events on the weekends and a good theater.

Gardens Mall (http://www.downtownatthegardens.com/) is a high end mall next door to DATG. Legacy Place (http://www.shoplegacyplace.com/)is across the street and has shops/restaurants.

You can find dining on the intracoastal waterway in Gardens at Waterway Cafe (great outdoor bar, Reggae band on Sunday afternoons), Panama Hatties (also a great beach type bar called Rum Bar), Riverhouse (great high end dining), Seasons 52 (all meals 520 calories or less).

All of these are about a 15 minute drive. Just head north on A1A until you cross US1 and see a bridge. Panama Hatties on your left, Seasons 52 on your right. Over the bridge, Waterway Cafe on the left, Riverhouse on the right.

Further afield in Jupiter, I can recommend Guanabana's & Jetty's for food. Jetty's has a spectacular view of the lighthouse and inlet to the ocean. Castaway's (aka Square Grouper), of It's 5 o'clock Somewhere fame, is around the corner and a great waterfront place for a drink.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh yeah, water should be warm, clear, and without waves. If nothing else, check out Sailfish Marina at high tide or when the charter boats come in. Lots of fish.
If you buy food to feed the fish, don't get it from the vending machine, go inside and buy the frozen shrimp inside. Same price, but more. Feeding the Jack Crevalle is interesting.

One more very important point (as I sit here in a thunderstorm).
Beach it early in the day. Typically, around 3pm we get thunderstorms rolling in off the Everglades.
Plan on being indoors late in the afternoon. Typically, they roll through, dropping the temperature for the evening.

As an aside, if you would like to go high end for one of the "nice dinners, there is Palm Beach quite nearby." My favorite is the Palm Beach Grill on Royal Poinciana Way but there are a half-dozen more that are worthy of consideration.

And on one of those rainy afternoons, if you feel at all ambitious, you might well the Flagler Museum in PB to be interesting.

Great suggestion. Also, the Nortin Art Museum is pretty well respected. I think that they have an occasional Friday night cocktail event as well.

PB Grill has some great reviews....We will check it out as well.

Good call. I will adjust my expectations accordingly. Maybe I will plan for my post beach lounge nap during that time :p

Awesome...thanks again. I have cut this entire post (with links) into my travel folder. I will plan to check out the "high end" movie house and comedy club during the evenings.

If you actually do get up as far as Jupiter, you can save some money and eat well at Little Moir's Food Shack in the Indiantown Shopping Center at the corner of Rte 1 & Indiantown Rd.
