I was able to redeem 45,000 miles for a $1,800 First Class ticket MCO-ANC. I have done this route with CO, my question is what is it like on DL/AS? My routing is DL MCO-SLC-ANC, then AS ANC-SEA-MCO.

I am getting a dinner on my first DL flight and a snack on the Flight to ANC. The AS flight lists lunch and then a snack for the transcontinental flight. Do any of you know what these meals are like? Also, I understand I get "AS Boardroom access for F", what does DL offer? Any general information would be of great help.

There are many, many ways to get SkyClub access, but an F ticket MCO-SLC-ANC isn't one of them.

As noted by 3Cforme, your FC boarding pass for DL will get you an FC seat but no entry to the SkyClub.

Have a great trip!

I generally like the FC meals on AS better than DL. I had a snack (might have been lunch) on a pretty short AS flight in April that featured a delicious smoked salmon. The couple in the seats in front of Mrs flymonthly and me didn't care for salmon so we got to have seconds.:D OTOH, DL does have the snack baskets.

I just got off the phone rearranging two of my award tickets that will now allow me to fly to Alaska twice (once in F) and Munich once (in J) all for 125,000 miles total :D.

I too like AS better than DL. The SEA Boardroom is really nice. The ANC one is nice, but I don't think quite as nice as the one in SEA.

What are you doing in Alaska in October? It certainly is not the "tourist" time to visit Alaska. You might have a decent chance of seeing the Northern Lights though.

What is the DL dinner like to MCO-SLC? By the way, this was the only good (reasonable) use of skymiles I could find!

I decided to try this overnight trip below over a weekend in ANC. It was only $250 for the train/hotel package. What is your view of the ANC's Captain Cook Hotel?

I really enjoyed my Oct 2007, Dinner Fall Foliage Train Trip; The food was great, it was by far the nicest train I have been on, and the blue glacier views were amazing!!!

Are you up for this frightening challenge?

Enjoy complimentary appetizers and a cash bar along the way. Costumes worthy of Transylvania encouraged.

Actually very easy. Think of free stopovers allowed on award tickets. And I actually can throw in one more trip to NYC for the same number of miles + $140 (which I am in fact doing) or two trips to NYC by adding about $280.

Maybe the Chicago Seminar DO or the Ann Arbor DO will be good times to explain it.

I just used the Delta.com "book award travel" option, using the award map for the 45,000 FC flights. Alaska Airlines was not offered coming up, but I was able to get it going back!! In 2007 I did the same with CO/AS when in went on my Sept weekend train trip. I learned from that, to always take AS when possible.

It sounds very interesting. Note that Anchorage to Girdwood is a very short train ride. But you do ride along Turnagain Arm, which is really nice.

I have never stayed at the Captain Cook. I have heard it is a nice hotel, but a little worn. It is very central to things in downtown Anchorage so that is good. If the price were right, I would stay there. I usually stay at an Extended Stay or a Marriott-owned property since I can get good rates on those either through priceline/hotwire or through corporate discounts.

Depending on how long you are there, you might want to consider renting a car for a day and driving to Talkeetna. Kind of a neat town, though probably pretty deserted that time of year. But the Roadhouse is open and views of Mt. McKinley are incredible from there and slightly further north of there.

But you are spending 45K miles for one first class trip to Alaska. I am spending 125K miles for one first class trip to Alaska, one coach class trip to Alaska and one business class trip to Munich.

I've stayed at the Captain Cook several times, but not in the past few years. It is well located in downtown Anchorage and is pretty nice, but was overpriced when I stayed there.

Well as always we appreciate having folks visit us up here, so if in town, check out the following thread ;)

And the murder mystery does sound interesting. The Alaska Railroad does offer some interesting seasonal rides, including a Christmas Train.

Unfortunately you are on a red-eye back to MCO so your service won't be like a typical transcon (with a multi dish meal and two entree options), but should be an enjoyable experience. Check out the AS forum for the F meal tread for more on ANC-SEA offerings, which have improved too ^.

i got what you are doing. This is indeed very smart. I do it to Hawaii on US saver award seats. A whole lot of people have no idea those exist but they do. That way I fly to HI twice, go to FCO twice and go thru ANC twice all BIZ for 90k

My mom was recently turned away from the SEA Boardroom when flying on an award F. Paid F will get you into the Boardroom, but chek the restrictions for award travel.

Wow, that is unusual. I have entered the SEA AS Boardroom on several occasions using an "A" award ticket with AS. The policy is still that first class award travel ("A" class) is eligible for Boardroom entry:

http://www.alaskaair.com/as/www2/Flights/Boardroom/Policies-Rules.asp

Upgraded first class (i.e. "U" class) is not eligible.

I am planning on using a cheap ticket to Europe (upgrading the flights) and then using a saver 60,000 mile Envoy ticket from Europe to Hawaii.

Agree that is odd... if it was paid for with $ (full F) or miles ("A" or "F") then they should have gained access to all AS BR's that day. I last did this in April myself in SEA successfully.
