Just finished a 2 night stay in this property using a PP BOGO.
This hotel has been recently refurbished in what I presume is the new HI style. The lobby is quite dramatic and modern and I thought it was very impressive for one of the cheaper brands in the ICHG group. Lots of dark timber and then rich red feature walls make it very stylish, although not quite as sophisticated as an IC.
There were 3 of us so we stayed in a 2 double bed superior ocean suite. This was a good choice as it had 2 tvs and a decent sized living area. The beds were very comfortable and the room was well equipped. The ocean view is directly out of the side window of the living room. From the balcony you can see the city of surfers paradise, the mountains and the ocean as well.
The hotel restaurant is very good value. We had the buffet dinner and ate breakfast there as well. The dinner was better than I expected for $53 pp for a seafood buffet. The seafood was fresh and you could also order freshly cooked hot items such as steak, salmon or lamb. It didn't have as much choice as you would get at a CP or IC buffet but the limited selection they had was well done. Breakfast was ok only. The tea/coffee was self service so it could be a long wait depending on when you take breakfast. There was a reasonable selection of hot and cold items. The make your own juice machine was novel but slightly scary to use. It was better than the cheap juices they served themselves so if you really appreciate fruit juice it is probably worth squeezing your own.
I've now stayed at both of the recently renovated ICHG properties on the gold coast CP and HI. I didn't notice any real difference in service levels between the two but preferred the style of the HI. I made quite a few requests of room service and housekeeping at the HI and they always responded promptly. The HI gets extra credit for offering a pillow menu as I don't like the standard pillows they provide. ^
