No one will take their place. There is no demand for flights from Toronto to Atlantic City.

I think he meant who will take their place as in the carrier that has given an assurance of starting this service in WestJet's place - as mentioned in the article.

Whether or not anyone actually will is a different story, but their is apparently an airline that has given a commitment to start this service instead. Did you read the article?

Probably Allegiant to their favorite suburban Toronto airport, located in Niagara Falls, NY.

Porter?

Yes I read the article; I just don't think any airline could make a go of that route. Porter is a good guess, but there must be plenty of other places they could fly that would have a better chance of making money.

I doubt it's Porter because the article states that "Gordon said the SJTA has a commitment from another airline, which she would not name, to resume the Toronto service next year. That service would include another destination, which Gordon also would not name."

Porter currently has only two flights that do not involve toronto, so I doubt it's them.

A surprise to no one but WS apologists.:p

I guess they'll have to search even farther down for that low hanging fruit!

I disagree. I think there would have been demand if WestJet had gotten its act together there. I took one round trip ACY-YYZ in December and they were the two most poorly executed (yet totally full!) flights I have ever taken. Delays at check-in due to computer malfunctions (both ways, and really, all computers are malfunctioning?); too many babies on the flight (didn't they know in advance?); and passengers sitting at the gate with no idea what is going on because not a single WestJet employee showed up to the gate until an hour after scheduled departure time.

I fly PHL-YYZ often (about once a month) and I pay out of pocket. I would rather pay $350, even $500, than pay $100 (which is how much I paid) to take the WestJet flights. (Granted, PHL is 15 mins from me vs. 1 hr to ACY, but I don't mind the drive to save $250+). If their customer experience deters a cheap grad student from saving thousands each year, that's terrible.

...(yet totally full!) flights I have ever taken...

Interesting. I wonder if anyone else had personal experience with their flights. WS obviously wouldn't release the numbers, but if there's is enough demand I really hope some other Airline picks up the route.

I really doubt Porter would give it a go any time soon. They still have many other destinations they claim they're expanding too (PHL for example) and ACY is not on that list (though my only source for this is their route map in the back of their inflight magazine).

Considering that AC (and CO) are expanding to YTZ, I wonder if they'd take some risks and give it a try. Would be nice to seer AC service the Toronto Island Airport, yet again, and offer some novel route that PD isn't offering  but, of course, i doubt they think of YTZ as anything other than a nuisance for their costly Terminal 1 over at YYZ.

I realize this topic is almost two years old, but I couldn't find any other forum topic about Westjet's rather quick discontinuation of the ACY service so please forgive me!!

I live only 15 minutes away from ACY and go to Canada once every summer to visit family. Sometimes we fly from PHL (which is 1hr 30 mins drive and often costs $500-$700 a ticket) or drive. The PHL flights are always delayed.

I took the WestJet ACY-YYZ service back in April 2010 during spring back and both flights were oversold. There was a long line of people waiting to board, but the flights were definitely packed. Maybe running the route during the harsh winter, and late at night (leaving no chance for connections) didn't help. It's a shame they wouldn't give this route another go, perhaps summer seasonal, since I can see a lot of demand for this route. The flights were very convenient. affordable, ACY was a small, less congested alternative to Philadelphia and we didn't have to pay any annoying baggage fees!

I also agree with the poor excution of the flights. The WestJet staff at ACY took over 15 minutes to board one family for the flight? Apparently they were having computer issues. On the way back from YYZ, the gate where the ACY flight was parked at was blocked off. Not one WestJet employee showed up until 15 minutes prior to departure. Many other passengers were waiting outside the terminal confused.

There has been no flight since but I really hope someone can give another go with the ACY-Canada service. My family in Canada would love to come here if someone flew in direct. You can find boatloads of cars with Ontario and Quebec plates during the summer. Maybe Montreal is a better option since we get plenty of Quebec customers at the casino that I work that. Maybe Air Canada Jazz or Porter can give ACY a try. Also WestJet recently ordered some Q400s. The Q400s would probably be enough to fill the seats year yound

Not the best of times to start flights to Atlantic City given recent events.

Just to comment on US bound flights out of YYZ T3...as localonthe8s points out, at the time of his flight, the signage for those swing gates (gates that are used alternately for domestic/US flights) was very poor. Recently the GTAA has improved their signage greatly and now US bound guests waiting at the glass door to enter the swing area should have little to no issues with wayfinding and information about the gate/flight.

The new Revel resort opened which is quite different from the other casinos here. Definitely a level up. It's also aiming business conventions during midweeks. While I doubt one resort will be enough to attract more demand to the city only time will tell. And the stabbings that took place last week were definitely tragic, however I don't think one incident when the attacker was from Philadelphia should be enough to drift tourists away from the city. That incident was random and bizarre, it does not happen in AC. It couldve happened in any major city. Anyways, I appreciate their efforts of trying this route! Not many people in south jersey would probably use the flights considering everyone here has only one air destination in mind: Florida.
