Hopeful that this question belongs in this thread, but any experience here with the Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake? Planning our first trip to Vietnam and while I know the Sofitel usually gets top marks here, we are finding the Sofitel responses to our reservation inquiries (via Virtuoso agent) to be surprisingly unresponsive/intransigent ... The Intercontinental appears to be quite new and and looks to position itself as a luxury property but have found not a lot of reporting on Flyertalk about the property. Grateful for any insights anyone might offer ...

I'll be staying in this hotel. It has good reviews at Tripadvisor and was on Conde Nast Traveller's hot list in 2008. It looks like one of the two best options in Hanoi.

The property is currently on Priority Club pointsbreaks, so available for just 5K points/night thru the end of August.

We stayed there for two nights in March and loved it. It's very peaceful, the rooms are big and nicely decorated with large bathrooms, and the offerings in the club were excellent. I would definitely recommend it.

I have stayed at the IC. It is a good hotel although the Westlake location is not convenient the way the Sofitel is (directly in front of the Opera house).

The Sofitel has tons of history and is very classy- that being said it is also packed with gawking tourists if that matters to you.

Not at all a luxury option- however i have stayed at the solid 4* Hilton Opera across the street a few times and like it due to the combination of a good Exec lounge, a lot of space in the suites for very good value pricing, a good management team and a nice pool. Really though the Hilton is great because it is has the same location as the Sofitel (they are across the round-about from each other). The IC, out by the Sheraton on Westlake is a bit far away.

If you are talking about the Sofitel on Westlake (I don't think so as you mentioned your Virtuoso agent)- that hotel is a 4* convention place.
