Many many thanks to the wonderful staff at the HI Bangkok, for making the best of my daughter's first stay to Thailand.

Due to the recent troubles in Bangkok, my daughter skipped staying there on the outbound leg, going direct to the HI Phuket, HI resort Phi Phi and on to Ao nang, before going back to bangkok to stay at the Conrad. Because of no availability for the 3rd night, she moved to the HI PloenChit.

In all honestly, she was pleased to move, as the staff at the Conrad made her and her partner feel MOST uncomfortable, not fitting the executive profile of the typical Conrad guest. She was blatanlty lied to, and shunned by the staff, until they were advised that she was a guest on the executive floor, "paid for" by her father a Diamond HHonors member, but by then, the damage was done.

The staff at the HI on the other hand were superb, making her feel genuinely welcome, and a valued guest, with nothing being too much trouble, anywhere in the hotel.

Give yourselves a slap on the back, HI Bangkok, your attitude FAR outshines that of the Conrad !

Great to see they enjoyed their time at HI BKK. Although its a hotel I have never stayed at, I do frequent the IC next door (there now) which I put as one of the two best hotels in BKK, I'm sure HI is in the same vein.

Unfortunately I don't have the same view of HI Phi Phi.... not something I will ever recommend to anyone.... Way too expensive and the hotel is really on 2 star at the best

As for the conrad, its a great hotel, but I agree with your comments on status. I stay there as a gold HH member, but still feel I get looked down on, and never feel comfortable there. There are to many great hotels in BKK to worry about not feeling welcome, hence I now stay at all the SPG and IC hotels

I prefer the IC Bangkok, it is one of my favourite hotels in the World, I just don;t like getting the points for a week's stay when if I stay next door at the HI I get points based on my spend.

The service in the IC is outstanding, it really is. The Conrad, less so, in my opinion.
