Wyndham Rewards - Taxes and award stays

The online booking engine suggests that there may be taxes due on award stays. I looked at some of the NYC properties and the taxes can total $50/night.
Can I presume this is a computer glitch? Nobody really ever has to pay taxes (on a regular rate, no less) for an award stay, right?
Thanks.

I've never paid taxes on an award stay, Wyndham, or otherwise.

I once had a Marriott in Shanghai want to charge me tax. Marriott refunded me the money, gave me a gift card for the trouble and, I believe, took action to stop the property from doing it again. I suppose you might be assessed a few dollar "occupancy tax" somewhere, but I can't imagine any US property would charge you sales tax.
Or at least I hope so!
