Really, of all the airports, would somebody really pick Tweed?
NEW HAVEN — Tweed New Haven Regional Airport has been shut down and the passenger terminal evacuated because of a suspicious package.
The package was located inside the terminal about 11:30 a.m. The Fire Department and bomb squad have been notified and are on scene, police said.
Authorities ordered that fuel trucks be driven to an area away from the terminal. A plane landed about 15 minutes after the package was found. It also taxied to an area away from the terminal. Passengers disembarked onto the tarmac.
Check back for further updates.

The afternoon update
Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Robert Goulston reported from the airport that a caravan of emergency vehicles and a bomb container removed the package from the airport at about 2 p.m. The package was being driven to another location to be detonated, Goulston reported.

In a dark cave somewhere in the Pakistani mountains, a band of terrorists decides to strike a blow against Springfield... because they know it is the home of the famous American Homer Simpson...

One would wonder why the x-rays didn't show what was in the metal box. Because......
NEW HAVEN, Conn.
New Haven police say a suspicious package that temporarily shut down Tweed New Haven Regional Airport turned out to be an empty metal box.
The small airport had been shut after an officer reported the package about 11:30 a.m. Friday. It reopened about three hours later.
Police spokesman Joe Avery says the package, found at the entrance to the airport outside a building near a trash can, resembled a small safe but X-rays couldn't see inside it. He said the package was taken to a nearby park where it was detonated in a hole and found to be empty.
Avery says the investigation is continuing.
Tim Larson, executive director of the airport authority, said 35 to 50 people were evacuated and about 20 passengers were delayed.
I hate to say this and give the terrorists any ideas. But if you don't want the police blowing up your bombs, instead of putting them next to garbage cans, put them in them, where nobody would give them a second look.
How many coolers, cardboard boxes, and empty metal boxes will they be blowing up?

I was 90% certain that was going to be the comeback.
In related news, an abandoned suitcase was found at Logan Terminal C.
After some tentative approaches by the staties, an obviously well trained
removal expert drove up in a small dumpster, parked it about 50 ft away,
walked gingerly up to the suitcase, rolled it away, down and up a curb,
jostling it all the time, picked it up, and threw it into the dumpster,
driving away as it hung halfway out.
I actually witnessed this earlier this week while waiting for the bus -
hoping that the person knew what he was doing but with a nagging fear
that we'd all go up in a flash and a cloud of smoke.
