OK, so it is tough to get excited about a HIX property, but this one exceeded my (low) expectations. Keep in mind that the purpose of this trip was primarily beachtime. The highlights were:
1. Low rate: Ent Card rate is $50.95 midweek (in fact most days I checked it came up,) and is just short of the 50% off that would make it, arguably, not a qualified rate;
2. Location: It was a short drive to Clearwater and St Pete beachs (and to Tampa via I-275. Fortunately, the water is still clean here, though as Bill Maher suggested, BP may start their ad campaign for "Florida, lubricated for your pleasure" soon;
3. Room: OK a suite has a door between the living room area and bedroom, so, this one was a suite with 2-32" LCD tv's. There was cottage cheese on the ceilings and pillows were of marginal comfort, but numerous;
4. Customer Service: OK so seldom do you need or expect anything from a HIX stay, but the staff were friendly and helpful, with a proper amount of "informed" in being informative, especially about dining options nearby. And warm cookies in the evening.
Definitely a good option versus the $135 per night at the IC Tampa.
