Central America - Advice needed: Panama City to Cartagena?

AA has a pretty good fare between LAX-PTY. However, I need to get to Cartagena. What is the best/fastest way to get there? Fly? Bus? The distance looks short (283 air miles) so maybe it's just a hopper flight?

This is my first time in Latin America so I was wondering (in the immortal words of Jeremy Clarkson), "how hard could it be"?

Thanks in advance...

No overland travel exists between Panama and Colombia. The road ends at the so-called Darien Gap in far eastern Panama.

Panama's airline Copa flies between PTY and CTG.

In fact, Copa codeshares with Continental.

Wow, didn't know that the road ends in Panama. Will check out Copa Air. Even looks like Continental...wonder if I can accrue MP points? :D

Panama City if you're looking for urban life... Cartegena if you're looking for beautiful beaches.

No MP points on Copa. They are partners with Continental who held a majority stake in Copa once upon a time so you can get OnePass miles.

FYI, Copa has a direct flight from LAX to PTY so maybe you can book the whole trip on them.
