Hi,

I'm planning on trying Priceline for a Boston hotel for 2 nights in June (Fri/Sat).
My aim is for the cheapest 3* or above property that has good access to the metro. Don't want to get stuck somewhere that doesn't have good metro access and I don't know Boston at all.

Travel is not till June so heaps of time.

Looking for recommendations for bidding strategy.

Wasn't sure whether to post this on the Boston forum or the Priceline forum so hopefully not posting this in wrong place.

Thanks

This might end up getting moved to the Online Travel Booking and Bidding forum, but I can at least help you here.

For Boston, if you want to guarantee fairly easy access to the T (that's the name of the subway system), you want to make sure you stick to the Copley Square/Theatre District zone and/or the Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall/Financial zone. Any others could give you a hotel that is a far walking distance.

Not sure if you've used Priceline before, but one strategy a lot of people do is to use "free rebid" zones, which are zones that have a maximum star level that is lower than the star level you are looking for. So if you'd like 3*, any zone that has a maximum of 2.5* or less is a free rebid zone. There are at least two of them as of right now, if you check them one at a time, you will see what they are.

I recommend taking a visit to www.betterbidding.com if you need PL help. Good luck!

thanks. Knowing I need to stick to those zones is really helpful.

I have used it before and so yes do know how to use the free re-bid

I wouldn't bid anything less than 4* for Boston proper. The Park Plaza comes up a lot @ sub-4* -- bad hotel. It's a nice enough hotel on the outside and in a pretty darn good location. I've never been in the rooms, but I suspect it's one of those old grand dame hotels that's long overdue for a makeover. While I would heed your advice and bid for a 4*, I imagine that one could do worse than the Park Plaza.
