Staying at the HI Pattaya because the IC BKK is closed due to protests.

Very new hotel with nice amenities. Booked a mid-priced room, was given a GREAT 2 room suite with a fantastic ocean view from 2 balconies.

No club, but good breakfast included. Nice pool for adults separate from kids.

Good staff, very clean, great location, great price ($125/night).^

Is this hotel currently busy at the moment as I was going to book a 3 night stay in a couple of weeks to get the double/treble points in May.

All of Thailand is a bit slow in bookings due to the Red Shirt protests. The HI Pattaya looked about 50% or so occupancy.

No problems at the airport or in Pattaya. The IC Bangkok and HI are closed due to protests. The HI Silom is open but veeeery quiet with about only a 10% occupancy,

Thanks for the feedback I am due to fly to BKK tomorrow. Was also hoping to stay in BKK for a few days although the protests seem to be getting worse there.

UK government have issued a stay away notice so guess my travel insurance will also be void now.

Yeah the Oceanview Suite upgrade is terrific-almost makes Pattaya bearable.Just been to IC & HI silom BKK.

IC was verrrrry quiet....so quiet all floors above 25th were closed & Club IC was serving 'Sets' (basically a plate of 'canapes' handed over to the few who entered the lounge).HI Silom bit busier & got a thank-you letter from the GM , a bowl of fruit and a box of chocies as apparently it was my 20th stay.I like that hotel :)

Quick bump, considering 10 day stay next January. Hotel has great reviews, how are the beaches or is the hotel pool the place to be. Is the breakfast Western style or Thai? Any grocery stores around? How did you get there from Bangkok?

Beach is nothing to speak of and it is a very long promenade.
Hotel is very good, you should aim for a suite with a beach view.
Grocery stores like 7/11 easily accessible. Private car collection is in the oder of US $50, it's a fair stretch, 2 hours. Coach is a cheaper option but check timetable in advance for convenience.
