GMG from CGP-DAC return
Depart-Wednesday 3/17/10 Return- Friday 3/19/10

1. Preflight
My dad had work do to in DAC (in Bangladesh), and my mom and I was to come up on Wed. to get Chinese visas for the 2010 Worlds Fair. We had flown GMG before, but I was happy because I could do my first trip report! This is big for me, as although I’m only 13 I really love airlines, so here it is. I hope you enjoy, and comment please! Thx.

2. Flight details:
CGP- DAC=Z5-108 Depart-1520 Arrive-1610 (on-time) DAC-CGP=Z5-101 Depart-730 Arrive-820 (on-time)
(Both on Dash-8)
3. Airport (CGP Chittagong)
CGP is not your best airport. Plain and simple. The international terminal is good for a short wait, but not a long layover. The domestic is really small like really small. Check-in is fast because there aren’t that many people flying. If you fly through here don’t come to the airport before an hour before departure if you are flying GMG or United. The check-in counters open then. After checking-in, eating a snack, and getting pictures, we preceded to security. It is very fast then into the nothing to do in it departure lounge. All it is is seating, no snack bar, nothing. Ok there is a T.V. but… :p Soon we had on time boarding, and departure! :) That is very unusual, most flights are delayed 3 hours or more as the airlines have like 3 planes with 30 departures a day (guessing) :p. No line at runway (we were the only plane at the airport), and a quick take off.

4. Flight (Z5-108)
Although these are 50min flights there is always a snack basket that the FA passes around with crackers, cakes, chocolates, etc. There is also mango juice and bottled water. I spent the flight reading (I was missing school) and taking pics (sorry I don’t know how to upload, but when I do I will). The seats are comfy for a short flight and the legroom is all right (better on Kingfisher) for a prop. All too soon we landed. We taxied to a remote stand at the International terminal, and a bus was waiting for us to take us to the domestic. We didn’t check bags, so just walked out and saw my dad.

5. Airport (DAC Dhaka)
After 2 nights at DAC we went to the airport with Chinese visas in our passports, for our flight to CGP. Check-in fast, and then through security into the departure lounge. This one is better here in terms of stuff to do and size, but at CGP it is cleaner. Boarding was called on time again, and we were bused to the plane. Takeoff on-time again! :)

6. Flight (Z5-101)
In the air I had a nice surprise, as this was a breakfast flight they served snack boxes with shingaras, sweet bread, and chicken sandwiches! The food was very good, and felt like service from CGP-CCU! :) Flight spent the same way as last time, and all too soon it was time to land. We didn’t check bags again, so we walked out on the street, back into Chittagong! Oh well! :p

6.Verdict
All in all 2 great flights! :D I hope they turn into a world wide full service airline like Singapore Airlines or at least like Continental. Great job GMG! ^ :) Thx for reading :)

Wow you should treasure all your travels. .I can't believe you're only 13!! Great work on the report. I'm about to finish college next month and I feel lucky enough to have traveled to Asia and Europe...you've already blown me away. well at least i'll have Australia and NZ to look forward to in June thanks to FT!!

Look forward to more TR in the future. Seeing that you already have CO Gold Status and love a traveling/airplanes...there's no doubt in my mind that you'll have a lot to contribute in the future.

Safe Travels.

Thanks for the report! I flew GMG from DAC to CCU in November and it was one of the more interesting experiences I've had. Highlights included the station manager calling me (on the phone) several times in the hours prior to departure to ensure I'd get to the airport on time, the station manager checking me in for the flight (before I got to the airport) as he wanted to make sure I relaxed and had a good dinner rather than rushing to get to the airport, being asked if I could fix the aircraft (I have no maintenance experience), and riding in the cockpit for the flight.

Shingaras are the same as samosas?
Depends on your point of view....they can have the same things in them but shingaras are balls. :p

This reminds me to tell my GMG story - probably one of the funniest stories I've ever experienced in travel.

Got to the airport 2 hours before a DAC-KTM flight, purchased just 10 days prior. After fighting past the crowds to the business class check-in, the representatives looked at us like we were aliens. "We do not fly to DAC in many months" - yes, I'd been sold tickets on a flight that had ceased operating months ago.

Eventually, we ended up in some office in the 2nd floor of the DAC airport, which seemed to be the pilot rest/check-in room...which had a computer with functioning internet, which they were happy to let us use and try and find something. Eventually, ended up booking DAC-DEL the next day to get back on our itinerary (albeit 4 days early), and writing off the trip to Nepal.

The thing that stood out was, despite obviously disfunctional reservations, the people of GMG went the extra mile to help. Letting us use their break room to check flights, one pilot even offered his brother's services to DRIVE us to Nepal. Decided that might not be the best idea ;)

Great post dinoscool3! If only my family could have taken me on a RTW when I was 13! I'm jealous :)

There is a good thread on the travel photography forum that explains how to add pictures to a post. You can find that here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-photography/748616-how-where-embed-your-pictures-travel-photography-forum.html

I'm also interested in seeing the photos! Thanks for the report!

Thanks for a great trip report. I went to Bangladesh in 2006, but didn't make any domestic flights.

Biman Bangladesh BKK-DAC return was enough ;)
