I don't understand why, for example, the UA forum is call "United Mileage Plus" instead of "United". There is plenty of discussion therein which pertains to UA operations outside of the frequent flier program, for example lounges, irrops, cabin crew, ticketing, etc.

Similarly, what percentage of posts in the "Starwood Preferred Guest" forum is related to SPG points as opposed to cleanliness of rooms, general hotel operations, room service, etc?

And then if one looks at the BA forum, there's stuff which doesn't even pertain to BA, let alone its frequent flier program.

The original intent of FlyerTalk was points & miles and the focus of the founder is definitely still points & miles. As FlyerTalk has grown, the scope has changed and there are threads that move from the original purpose of FT - however, as homage to it's original intent, I personally, prefer the program name to be a part of it. Also, when discussing the creation of new fora, I think that a airline or hotel or rental car company should have some sort of program in place before it's considered.

Just my 2 cents...

The point the OP makes is perfectly valid but somehow it still doesn't bother me if all the names stay the same.

Does anyone here know whether search engine rankings would become less prominent if we made this change?

It is interesting to note that if a new hotel chain or airline were to emerge without a frequent flyer/frequent guest program, there would be nowhere to logically place a dedicated forum about it.

And that's not unprecedented. Ritz-Carlton doesn't have an actual frequent guest "program;" they participate only marginally in Marriott Rewards. They and Four Seasons get lumped into the Luxury Hotels forum.
