View Full Version : What happens if I miss my flight?

So here's my situation...

I've had a flight booked by a prospective employer to come to their Edmonton office for an interview on Friday. It's for a practicum placement, and since I'm going to be in town my practicum supervisor got me another interview with a different firm. By the time this 2nd interview wraps up, I'll likely barely have enough time to get to YEG for my 4:30 flight back to YYJ. In fact, it's more likely that the 2nd interview will only wrap up around 4...

So what can I do if this happens? I can't simply re-book for a later flight as the itinerary was arranged by the first company. I know WestJet used to do a thing where if you missed your flight it was a $45 fee to reb-ook for the next one. Do they still do this? Or have they become like Air Canada where you're SOL and paying full fare for a new ticket?

Interesting situation. I don't know this for sure, but try calling them and paying for the change direct on your credit card. Then maybe they wont find out.

We've just taken our industry leading late show policy and gave it a polish.

Provided you present yourself at checkin within two hours of your scheduled departure, you pay $52.50 and are confirmed on the next flight with availability (ie we wont overbook the *next* flight but you'd be confirmed on the one after if *that* had a seat when you are making the change)

The 'confirmed' status is new - if the agent isnt REALLY up to date on their memos have them search the "GR" for "Late Show Guests" and read section 2.3.

You could always just call the reservations line direct and make the change!

Thanks for the replies!

I immediately thought of re-booking, however I don't know the fare information. I think the 9:15 PM departure out of YEG was cheaper than the one I'm booked on, so even with the change fee it would've produced a credit. That means either I take it from the company and profit from them, or assign it in their name and they know about my re-booking.

So about this late show policy, it's appears the same as before. Strange that I can't find anything about it on WestJet's website. I did a Google search and the first thing that came up was this thread. :p Can I call WJ to re-book as well? Say I'm leaving Sherwood Park at 4 PM and know there's no way I'll make it, can I phone them to get the re-booking started right away?

The change is that we used to put you on standby for the next departure, now we confirm you on the next flight with availability.

I should have said you have two hours to *contact WestJet* after the scheduled departure. This can be the call centre or the airport.

You're right about it not being on the site. I don't know why? I think it allows us to be able to under-promise and over-deliver.

Thanks for the help. I'll probably just focus on getting to the airport in record time with the hope that I might make my original departure, and then if not go for the late show re-booking. I notice the 9:15 is carrying a fairly low fare still which might indicate there will still be available seats on Friday. You're probably right as well about it not being on the site. I'd notice in the terms and conditions it said that no-shows get no refund or credit, so I'd assumed WestJet had gone the way of Air Canada. Perhaps by not putting it plainly on the site, it cuts down on the amount of people having to be re-booked, or even people intentionally missing the flight to get a later departure for less than having booked it in the first place.
