Just curious if any one is. My partner and I bought SEA-KEF a few weeks ago and were quite enthralled about the subsequent lava eruption. A little less happy that it's turned to ash now but we still are excited.

Just had to change our itineraries a few times from clockwise tour (ferry to West Fjords not operational in early May) to counterclockwise and now to a half circle (omitting the SE quadrant) as the southern part of the ring road has a 400m section missing which may not be rebuilt in the next 16 days and one place we were planning to stay at (to see view the eruption) may have been flooded.

From what I've heard, KEF is open for business as usual, and regular flights are operating to and from the US ..................

I'm here this weekend, arrived Friday and departing Monday. It's surreal: while it was sunny, clear skies and warm in RVK on Saturday, the rest of European air space is in havoc. US flights out of KEF are unaffected and, in fact, are running on time. It's the eastbound flights to Europe that are affected. In other words, everything is normal in Iceland, including the snow flurries this morning.

BTW, summer fares to KEF seemed to have come down by as much as $100.

The local winds have shifted and KEF is closed for today and maybe tomorrow. FI is setting GLA as a hub and using AEY as an access point for the country.

Westbound flights to SEA have been CXL'd (hopefully it won't be next Saturday!) as the FI 752s don't have the range for that.

How did you find prices - eg food / accom / transport etc (although you may have had a package with the airfare?)

Despite 18 hours of visible light, April was and is still low season, so hotels and airfares are still set at winter rates. However, come May 1, everything changes. I've heard that several visitors have canceled their travel plans but I have not seen hotel prices come down for the summer. Icelandair summer fares, which were as high as $880, seem to have come down by $100. Still, Iceland is a bargain compared to what it was several years ago and certainly compared to Euro zone.

Indeed! That's why I haven't been up to YUL for the past year--yet.

They rebuilt that stretch fast. I think there were some 3 or 4 breaks in a 400m stretch and it was repaired within 48 hours. Saw some photos but could never find them.
