Hyatt Gold Passport - Worthless Platinum reservation guarantee...

Tried invoking Platinum reservation guarantee at GH Singapore on 20-22 April. Hotel denied the request because it's designated "blacked out" period as occupancy is expected to be high due to some hotel food and beverage mega event throughout Singapore.

Guess this is well-hidden in GP terms "4. Platinum members will be guaranteed a room at Hyatt Hotels & Resorts for their own personal use when a Hyatt paid reservation is made at least 72 hours prior to arrival based on local hotel time and guaranteed with a valid credit card. All reservations are subject to hotel guarantee and cancellation policies. This guarantee is valid for one standard guest room and is subject to the hotel’s Hyatt Daily Rate and individual hotel reservation requirements, such as length of stay, special packages and meal plans. This guarantee is not valid at Hyatt Resorts or during extraordinary room demand."

Which leaves me to question - what's the point of a reservation guarantee if it's subjectable to black out periods during "extraordinary room demand"? It's as good as not having a guarantee at all, at the time when the guarantee's most needed by the member.

Yeah, there's always an exception to the guarantee, and you'll get hit with that the one time you need it!

I also find that many of the properties in Asia are a law unto themselves, including across the SPG brand, so what is promised seems to vary from country to country or even property to property, which is not what the promotional/marketing materials would have us believe.

And of course, YMMV.

I understand your disappointment, yet I have used the guarantee successfully when the hotel was sold out (not during special event).

OP, perform a search, has been discussed numerous times. A Plat or a Diamond can force his way into some properties, however, when the event is considered too big/special, it will not work anymore.

Welcome to the realities of marketing communication. ;)
