Other Car Rental Programs (ie. Alamo, Enterprise) - 2 Month Rental (Enterprise Month or More Program)

Hi all!

I'm trying to find a good deal on an economy car rental in Lihue, Hawaii, for about 2 months (mid-July to mid-Sept).

The best deal I could find (aside from a shady local place that has received terrible reviews) is a little over $1,500 for the entire 2 months, including all taxes and fees.

I know I could probably buy a car for this amount and sell it back at the end of my stay, but I would very much prefer to avoid that hassle.

During my search, I eventually stumbled upon the Enterprise "Month or More" program, which offers special rates to long-term renters like myself. I called their number, and they knocked about $90 off the final bill relative to what was quoted on their website. I thought this was pretty nice, since their website's rate was already cheaper than all the other big companies.

Now, there is no penalty for cancellation ... so I'm considering doing a little more shopping around. Here are my questions:

(1) Do any other big companies have similar programs, like the Enterprise Month or More program, that I should look into?
(2) Are any other big companies generally inclined to haggle with you over long-term rentals such as this, if I call them on the phone? (i.e. do you think I could talk anyone into beating the Enterprise Month or More offer?)
(3) For those of you who are familiar with the Enterprise program specifically, do you think I should have haggled with Enterprise? I just accepted their rate b/c I didn't have any better options ... but do you think their telephone representatives have much/any wiggle room for negotiation?

Thanks so much for any insights!!

Not sure about how flexible the rates are when it comes to "haggling", but every major rental company has a similar program specifically for long-term rentals. Rentals longer than 60 days are subject to different regulations than shorter rentals as they are viewed legally as short-term leases rather than a rental so they're a bit more complicated and require a call to the company to get the best rate available. You might want to give each of the majors a call and do more research, using the rate you've been quoted by ERAC as a starting point for comparison, don't hesitate to ask for a price match. One other thing to keep in mind, some companies will require you to physically go to one of their locations each month to rewrite the contract while others can do this systematically, that convenience may weigh into your decision.

Enterprise's rates are based upon availability for the dates and times the vehicle is needed. Our Month or More program is able to provide more appropriate rates for long-term rentals than what is listed when booking online; however our agents are unable to haggle or change the rates they quote.

If you need further assistance please let us know.

Often, local outside sales agents (the folks responsible for building local corporate accounts) have some play in this arena. If you can find someone like that at the rental branch, talking to them can usually prove fruitful. If you can't find one, try to talk to the station/branch manager. Front-line sales agents and national phone center agents are not the right people to haggle with, but management and outside sales agents usually have more leeway.
