Midwest Airlines Midwest Miles (Pre-Alignment) - Consequences of disappearing Midwest brand

There will be many consequences due to the loss of the Midwest Airlines brand.
The first is the changing of the Midwest Airlines Center's name.

What others can we expect?

- sponsorships of local sports teams (including signage)
- sponsorship of (and exhibit area at) Summerfest
- Midwest "lounge" area at the Bradley Center

What about the bake-at-home cookies?
"Frontier Airlines Chocolate Chip Cookies" just not have the same ring to it.
I would expect Bedford to be a good corporate citizen and continue the many sponsorships that bear the Midwest name.
He is keenly aware should he back away, AirTran might be more than willing to replace the Midwest name.

Maybe AirTran needs to step in. Hoaxema sold out Midwest and Bedford sold out Milwaukee. What a piece of work.

How exactly has Bedford sold out Milwaukee?
When you think about it, was it really an easy decision either way. If he would have kept the YX brand, he would have irked people in DEN and they thought he sold them out. In some peoples minds, he did and in others he did not.
Now the big question will be what happens in the future. That will truly determine if he sold out on us.
The consequence at FT will be the elimination of this forum.
When that happens, I hope that the many insightful Midwest posters here will continue to contribute to the rather barren Frontier forum, instead of retiring with the Midwest name.

Elimination of the hometown airline brand, DL partnership, YX crews and equipment...need I go on?

The Midwest brand died years ago unfortunately. As many on here will point out, this is only the name. The DL partnership is unfortunate but they get a much better deal joining with F9. The YX crews and equipment leaving was decided by previous management. Again, Republic has done nothing but add new jobs since they took over.

Midwest has been gone since the 717's were toast.
They started to die when the 2x2 seating went away.
Midwest was basically like any regional airline that was being flown by a Republic crew.
Yesterday Midwest was just a paint job. Today its a fading paint job. Tomorrow it will be gone, and all will be better off.
(BTW, Midwest Chocolate Chip Cookies would have a good ring to it, and would bring the thoughts of good ol' midwestern home cooking.)

Yes, but not before they returned the 717s and put hundreds of YX employees on unemployment. It's still a net loss...
Before someone chimes in with "The 717s were on the way out by the time RAH came to MKE," ask Bedford how much he paid Boeing to break the leases on the last six. Bedford's plan backfired. His bid on F9 was an attempt to drive up the airline's price, hoping WN would pay for the company, helping to repay RAH's financing of F9. He's all smiles, but Bedford is in for challenges that I don't think he has the resources to overcome. An unfavorable (for him) arbitration ruling, combined with WN expansion and UA/FL territorial defense are uncertainties that could cost Bedford A LOT.

There's no reason to keep the Midwest name. The airline no longer reflects what the Midwest name was built on. (and hasn't been for some time)

Uhh Republic would have gotten their loan back no matter the price WN paid. Republic was in it to win it, otherwise they would have just let WN take it. They aren't in a position to just take back all of the YX crews until they can get all of their labor issues figured out. Then they have to be trained to fly the aircraft in the fleet. If it was something that could happen overnight I'm sure Bedford would love to get it taken care of and employ everyone, but that isn't how the world works.

I did the same thing for NWA. There's a republic mug at my parents house somewhere.

Better buy it now. Eventually, it will be gone and end up on E Bay at triple the price.

I'm guessing they will be gone soon. Might want to save a box or 2 (empty of course). I know as a DL flyer I've had my last cookie - at least it was at the BCC by real Midwest people instead of those fools on the Republic jet that couldn't run the oven.

Jay Sorensen behaved himself this time.
And the last quote, from Dave Fantle, if I remember correctly was nearly word-for-word what Bryan Bedford said at the brand announcement.

Well, Jay can't bash Midwest anymore because it is gone and Frontier is a potential customer of his company. So he is playing nice for now. Wait until Frontier gives him the cold shoulder. LOL
Daykin breaks another non news story on a slow news Monday.
Sorensen gets his name mentioned twice. He must be happy today.

YX was a sponsor of the Milwaukee Bucks. I noticed while watching their playoff game in Milwaukee the other night that the announcers now say, "Brought to you by Frontier Airlines." and the "tails" commercial was played several times. It appeared that the signage inside the Bradley Center was still Midwest Airlines however.

The Brewers still have the Midwest Airlines trivia contest at Miller Park, where a fan can win a pair of airline tickets for correctly answering a Brewer trivia question.
The signage at Miller Park is all still Midwest Airlines.

The signage for the Milwaukee Bucks will be changed for the next season. It takes awhile to come up with the new designs and to create the signs. So there's no rush to get it done before the end of this season.

Do you think there is a chance I would lose my Midwest Miles when the switchover to Frontier is complete? Should I use those miles up now?

The miles from both accounts will be combined so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Welcome to FT! :)
Here is a link to Frontier's EarlyReturns FAQ. It does state your Miles will be safe.

Now I have a question after reading the Frontier EarlyReturns FAQ page myself that probably nobody here will be able to answer. Will I get to choose the animal I want to see on my Frontier MasterCard?

LOL!
For what it's worth, my SO just got his replacement Midwest Airlines MC and it is black with the Midwest logo -- no aircraft picture. I don't recall what version of the card he has, so perhaps it is related to that rather than a deliberate removal of a YX plane. It does have the Midwest logo on it.

Considering that Midwest no longer flies the 717, the aircraft had to come off of the card at some point, right?
I guess they'll still issue the Midwest cards until which point that the two cards are merged. Frontier operates their credit card through Barclays/Juniper also, if I'm not mistaken.

You are correct about Barclays. I read somewhere that new cards with the same account number would be issued later this year. No word on animal choice.

I would assume the "My Midwest" magazine will be gone soon. I see there is a May/June issue. Could that be the last one? I always enjoyed reading the complimentary letters.
