This is an interesting program. I would like to hear feedback on the $300 membership level as far as opening up complimentary upgrade opportunities. A couple of upgrades could make the paid membership well worth the cost.
There are three levels of membership.
Leaders Club = free
Leaders Club Access = $300 year
Leaders Club Unlimited = $2,000 year
Not really clear what the benefits are of paid memberships. I don't see much on the website to explain what additional benefits are offered as a Leaders Club Access member except for a concierge service.

Looks like FlyerTalkers have been wondering for a couple of years what the benefits of paid membership are for Leaders Club Access members.

One could hotel-hop between the Trump and the Bellagio in Las Vegas over a five-day span and earn a free night, if my reading of the Ts and Cs is correct.

They sent out an email again today with this promotion to people who thought their Leaders Club membership was killed a few years back by LHW's change to the program trying to push customers to buy into membership (levels).
Amongst those who got this email, their accounts on LHW show as follow:
Your current membership level is the complimentary Leaders Club Level. It will expire on XXXXXXX XX, 2006.
Talk about a contradiction between having a current membership level and mentioning the expiration date as being 3+ years ago. How in the world "will" something expire in the past?

Any experience redeeming the free nights? I'll be at four at the end of the week... hope to redeem my first one somewhere exciting and crazy expensive! :)

It says I can only use 1 free night certificate per stay. How about I use my free night certificates for the 1st and 3rd night and my partner books the 2nd night. Would that be possible?

Seems the program has now changed to 2 levels:
Leaders Club Access = $100 year
Leaders Club Unlimited = $1,200 year
The change in cost/value happened on Jan 1, 2011. I bought the Access level membership 6 weeks before the change, so I spent the $300 annual fee on something which now costs $100.
I did get value from this purchase, I had a few upgraded nights in November. But wondering if the future upgrade value will be less since apparently all LHW members will now have Access?

Have been a LHW Leaders Club "access" member since 2002.
Every hotel stay we have booked through our LHW agent here in Sydney, has been upgraded on arrival, and always with a bottle of Moet or Veuve and fruit.
Twice we were upgraded to the Imperial Suite at Palazzo Versace :p
This year we are in the process of planning a world trip and our wonderful LHW consultants here in Sydney arranged for us to be comped "Unlimited" Leaders Club membership:)
All our hotel stays are with LHW for our world trip and all have been confirmed upgraded to suites even before we set foot in them.
I don't know about any where else but the LHW team in Sydney are fantastic nothing is to much trouble for them.
N.B. Have just confirmed that our free night after five stays we are using at the Hotel Splendido in Portofino (that alone is worth 1720 Euros) thank you LHW ^

Used our free night at the lovely Sandy Lane in Barbados with no problem (retail value 1200 USD) - wonderful place and we'll be back!

you can only use 1 free night per stay... doesn't seem horribly attractive to me..... if u stay 2 nights, it's like a 50% discount, if you stay for an average of 4 nights, it's merely a 25% discount.... and there's no recognition during the free night.....

I forgot to redeem my free night :(
I forgot to redeem my free night :(
You can still use it until the end of the year though, right? Treat yourself to a nice weekend...
I think it's a fabulous programm and even worth it only for the free breakfast that saved me significantly more than 100 USD this year.

we are going to be booking 16 nights worth of hotels while in japan, how does this program work out in japan. Has anyone used it there?? why are the welcoming gifts.
did you just book the lowest basic room and get upgraded to a suite??
Also could someone that has the access look up the pricing for may 11 2012 in any of the tokyo hotels so i could get an idea of the savings. i am sure its worth it but how much will i actually save?? thnaks in advance. ;)
One point that people seem to be missing is that if you have the unlimited access level you can redeem up to 3 nights at once.
Plus if you have the unlimited access level you earn a free night every 4 stays!

NO... WAY...! :D
I've been a loyal LHW member for several years and was unaware of this. (Leaves something to be said about their marketing department, I'd think...)
Will need to upgrade my membership post-haste. Thanks so much for the tip!

From http://www.lhw.com/luxury/faq:
"Can I redeem more than one award certificate per stay?
No, only one award certificate can be redeemed per stay."
