I was staying in HI GZ for 2 nights in March, my 4th stay in the hotel. In all occassions, I booked a business room and got upgraded to club room as Priority Platinum member.
Note that business room is usually RMB100 more expensive than the cheapest room but includes complimentary internet access. Internet access will cost RMB100 in the cheaper room so it is much more worthwhile to book the business room if you cannot stay away from your emails.
Service was good with full lounge access, room is large by HI standard and recently they just changed the toiletries to better ones.
The main reason I chose this hotel all the time is the location, on the same street, there are many shops and a few great restaurants over 100 years old. It is also within walking distance to the Jade Market.
A little bit of incident when I was leaving though. After checking out and while waiting for my taxi, there was another couple waiting ahead of me. The bell boy went to the top of the street to call taxi's for us. 2 taxi's came in, we were supposed to get the 2nd taxi (which was the larger one, hence more comfortable) but the bell boy after talking briefly to the taxi driver, direct the first couple to the larger taxi. At that time another bell boy was already loading my luggage into the taxi and had to take them out after talking briefly to the other bell boy.
Of course I was not happy and gave out. The first bell boy told me if I am not happy with the smaller taxi, I can wait for the next one. I was in a rush to get to the airport, so I just ignored him and load the luggage into the smaller taxi (without giving him a tips). When I was in the taxi, the taxi driver told me the bell boy was asking him for tips, which he refused to give. That was why the bell boy directed the first couple to the other taxi. I was not happy after hearing that of course.
