Diners Club Club Rewards - Differences between US DC and Canada DC redemptions rate. Why?

SInce I'm a Canadian, I never really paid attention to DC US, since it wasn't applicable to me. However, earlier today, while surfing marriott.com I noticed a redemption rate for DC points to Marriot Rewards Program that didn't looked right to me (as a Canadian!!)

1250 points from DC US for 1500 MR points.

That got me thinking and I went to look for the Canadian DC website and noticed that the same reward was way more expensive in Canada then in the US

2250 points from DC Canada for 1500 MR Points

I also noticed the same thing for all the other hotels programs.

Why is the price difference so high?

Currency values.

USA Club Rewards transfers 1000:1000 to airline miles. Canadian Club Rewards transfers 1250:1000. This values Canadian Club Rewards points at 80% of the USA version. I realize that doesn't reflect the current exchange rate, but here are the annual average CAD/USD rates in this decade:

2001 .646
2002 .637
2003 .716
2004 .770
2005 .826
2006 .882
2007 .935
2008 .944
2009 .880

You might be right to a certain extent. However, the exchange rate between the two currencies has never been as high as what is reflected by DC!:td:

Today the Loonie has hit par with the Greenback! Time for DC to improve those ratios. Perhaps BMO will do so as the new owners of DC.
The rates on hotel points are way off!
