How much time do you have? And what do you mean by "interesting" photographs? I love wildlife and scenic photos in Alaska. So I make it a point to take tours or go to places where I have a better chance of doing that.

Prince William Sound cruises will be starting up about then with the major companies, and Sound Eco Adventures on his small boat starts even earlier. Generally excellent times near glaciers and decent chance of wildlife.

Kenai Fjords cruises of 6 hours or longer are excellent for wildlife photos, as well as glaciers.

Depending on when they get the road cleared (http://www.nps.gov/dena/spring-road-opening.htm), a trip to Denali could land you some good photos. They usually open the road by late April to mile 30. I drove it last year three times before May 20th and saw some good wildlife up close. But it takes patience - one time I saw very little, another time not much until the end of the drive. Unfortunately the best scenic photos in Denali are further along the park road. But if Mt. McKinley is out, you can still get some great photos from along the road.

And depending on when in May and how long, if you have a night or two, you might be able to take in some of the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival. Some good photo ops in and around Homer (4+ hour drive from Anchorage). They have lots of boat tours available for some good photo ops too.

All of the above would be reachable with a rental car from Anchorage.

If you are interested in browsing through a photo book I made late last year of some of my Alaska photos, you can view it through this link: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1024082

Thank you kindly - helping me plan my trip. By all accounts looks like I am doing this solo - I can't seem to get anyone else to come with

I often go to Alaska solo. I often meet others once there, depending on my schedule, where I am staying, etc. I think you will have a great trip.
