Hey guys,

we've got a problem with the planning of our RTW-Budget-Tour: we wan't to go from south-east-Asia (Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong-Kong, whatever) to Southern America - no matter which city ;)

I never thought that there isn't s single flight from such big airports like Singapore direct to Southern America. We searched a lot, but it seems that there is not a single direct flight to a Southern American city...

You can go everywhere from Asia -except to Southern America. But flights via Dubai, Europe and/or the US are expensive. No wonder, look at the mileage in addition :(

Any suggestions to this topic? Are there guys who did fly from Asia to Southern America?

I have done it often. The only economic ways seem to be RTW tickets, which I often use. The EK GRU-DXB-whereever is becoming a common choice. I usually go to Europe LHR, CDG, MAD thence to Southeast Asia. I wish there were a better way. Varig used to fly GIG-HAN but that was with stops in a couple places, Lima and LAX if I recall.

In short, no good way.

If you're determined, you can go to PPT using your SEA connections, then us LA to SCL. I have done that too. It is actually longer in time, but is a little more exotic, if you like Tahiti and Easter island, both of which you go through.

Malaysia Airlines flies direct (not non-stop) from Kuala Lumpur to Buenos Aires twice a week but a one-way ticket is certainly not cheap (although probably as cheap as youre gonna get for this routing)

LAN Airlines do flights from Oz & NZ to Santiago.

Otherwise you'll have to go via the northern hemisphere

Welcome to FlyerTalk ChrisAndLara !

Don't know about cost, but when I checked South African Airways (http://www.flysaa.com/), it looks like you can connect in Johannesburg from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Hong Kong and fly into Sao Paulo or Buenos Aires.

Thank you for your advise!

Cause the first two flights are booked, there is no possibility for us to get an RTW Ticket. We checked this a few month ago and it was horribly expensive (SA around 7000 Euros and oneworld around 3500 Euros). Even with a one-way ticket from asia (via europe) to e.g. buneos aires we'll spent less than that.
From FRA to Cape Town and from Johannesburg to Mumbai we spent 500 Euros flighting with Ethidad and South African.

But we still got plenty of time...
we need a ticket around april 2011 - so we can check all of the suggestions :)

we are also looking for a flight from SEA to SA. So far, KUL to GRU is our best bet. We are willing to fly from anywhere in SEA to anywhere in south america. any other recs? this is for early jan 2011. thanks!

Qantas has SYD-EZE, not likely cheap but another place to look. Getting to SYD wouldn't be very difficult.
