LAN LANPASS - LAN to commence Galapagos service in SeptemberView Full Version : LAN to commence Galapagos service in September Eastbay1K Mar 18, 10, 9:53 am Story (http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2010/03/17/339598/lan-to-launch-galapagos-flights-in-september.html) free2draw Mar 19, 10, 11:49 pm This is a nice addition. With the new SFO-LIM service, I'm wondering if one can go SFO-LIM-Quito-Galapagos i_fly_AA Apr 15, 10, 3:40 pm Does anyone know when this flight will actually become bookable? It's still not showing on LAN or in any res systems apparently. hauteboy Apr 22, 10, 9:52 am It's bookable on LAN's site, after Sep 16th... $841 a/i R/T from Miami.. Not bad, considering we paid $400++ I think for UIO-GPS a few years ago. Nice addition to the oneworld network. ^ 3544quebec Apr 22, 10, 1:04 pm I was able to find award availability on the LAN website 7000km each way - unfortunatley I could get there but couldn't get back! milehighclubnz Apr 28, 10, 8:47 pm Link to the original text: http://www.etravelblackboard.co.nz/article.asp?nav=2&id=70081 LAN is again expanding its South American network, with daily flights to the remote and unique Galapagos Islands from September, 2010, and twice-weekly services from Lima, Peru, to the mystical Chilean territory of Easter Island, commencing in November. From 16 September, LAN Ecuador will fly from the cities of Quito and Guayaquil to Galapagos, a chain of 13 islands located 1000 kilometres west of the South American mainland. The volcanic islands are rich in history and amazing wildlife, with native animals including the Galapagos Hawk, the Frigate Bird, the Swallow-Tailed Gull and the Galapagos Marine Iguana. The Galapagos wildlife also played an important part in the theory of evolution espoused by the famous anthropologist Charles Darwin, who arrived on the island of San Christobel in 1845. Darwin noted physical differences between Galapagos creatures and similar mainland varieties, and concluded that the Galapagos wildlife had physically adapted to the local environment. LAN Ecuador will operate Airbus A320 aircraft from the mainland to the Galapagos Islands. Further south and later in the year, LAN Peru will commence twice-weekly flights from Lima to Easter Island, linking two of the most popular destinations in South America, and providing an exciting new itinerary option for tourists. Easter Island is said to be the world’s most isolated inhabited island. It is estimated by archaeologists to have been discovered by Polynesian explorers in about 400AD, and is best known for its unique “moai” – the giant carved stone statues dotted around the island. LAN already flies from the Chilean capital Santiago to Easter Island, and the new LAN Peru flights will enable travellers to continue from Easter Island to Peru, or to fly Lima – Easter Island – Santiago. DownUnderFlyer Apr 29, 10, 6:28 am Indeed two nice additions to the OW network. Too bad that LIM-IPC is just under 2400 miles which makes it less attractive for a DONE4 when crediting to QF. And I doubt it will be easy to get awards on those flights other than with LANPASS KMs. i_fly_AA May 8, 10, 8:52 am It's bookable on LAN's site, after Sep 16th... $841 a/i R/T from Miami.. It's a nice way to save some money for a trip to the Islands. However, after doing some research, I've found that the only way to see the actual islands is to take a farily expensive, multi-day crusie upon arrival there. pandaperth Jun 6, 10, 3:01 am Link to the original text: http://www.etravelblackboard.co.nz/article.asp?nav=2&id=70081 LAN is again expanding its South American network, with daily flights to the remote and unique Galapagos Islands from September, 2010, and twice-weekly services from Lima, Peru, to the mystical Chilean territory of Easter Island, commencing in November. Is anyone able to confirm when these LIM-IPC flights will be starting? I can find nothing on them on the LAN web site and trying to make bookings for December (which is when they are supposed to start according the travelblackboard link) always results in flights via SCL pandaperth Jun 19, 10, 10:03 pm According to KVS: LA848/7 weekly service on Wednesdays depart LIM @00:55 arr IPC @06:15 depart IPC @13:00 arr LIM @17:50 operated by a B767-300 MyTravels Aug 2, 10, 1:36 pm It's bookable on LAN's site, after Sep 16th... $841 a/i R/T from Miami.. Nice addition to the oneworld network. ^ If I recall correctly, it was $400 for non-citizens and $99 for locals. abcx Aug 3, 10, 5:51 pm I recently booked a BA award going SFO-LIM-EZE(stop)-SCL(stop)-IPC(dest)-SCL(stop)-LIM-SFO. That was considered a valid routing ('destination' was IPC). It seems that such a routing would no longer be valid (or at least won't be considered the most direct routing) with this new LIM-IPC flight. The Galapagos flight is certainly interesting though. I might consider flying SFO-LIM-UIO-GPS with stops in LIM, UIO and GPS for my next S. America trip. iahphx May 11, 11, 11:25 pm Has anyone booked award travel on this route? I'm thinking of doing it with AA miles. When I casually inquired a few months ago with AA rez about seats, it did seem like LAN had given some to AA to "award." But when I called back today to see what might be available, the agent couldn't find any for month-long periods. The flight originates in Quito, stops in Guayaquil, and then goes to Galapagos (GPS) airport. It seems to run daily. My recollection is you can go to BA's website to get accurate "oneworld" award seat inventory. Does that work well for LAN? I really hate asking AA agents "blindly" to find partner seats since, more often than not, they act like they're doing YOU a favor by searching at all. My other experience with LAN is that, except for their main LAN Chile subsidary, they can be "lazy" about loading oneworld seat inventory. Like I know there are some LAN Argentina routes that they somehow never get around to offering seats. When I once asked AA about this, they were unwilling to even call LAN to ask what the story was. So if it's not there, you're just seemingly out-of-luck for partner award travel. |
