I started looking for hotels in Wengen just this morning. Was it a tough climb from the train station? I ask because my Dad has a bum knee. He can get around, I just don't want to push it. Did you happen to see the location and ambiance of either the Alpenrose or the Bellevue where you were there? botham Mar 20, 10, 12:54 am Such an apropos post! Did you happen to see the location and ambiance of either the Alpenrose or the Bellevue where you were there? I chose the Baren, after reading glowing reviews on Trip Advisor. Apparently it's restaurant has an excellent local reputation. My two dinners were both delicious. Access was fairly easy but the climb up the road to the station or main street is quite steep. Taxis are available, but would your father want to take a taxi each time he left the hotel. The walk is only 5-10 minutes. The Bellevue is a similar distance, but in the opposite direction and is on a fairly level walk from the station or other local facilities. There is a marvellous local bakery on the way from the station! I found all hotels to be expensive, but if travelling off peak, negotiate good terms. botham Mar 20, 10, 11:28 am Such an apropos post! Did you happen to see the location and ambiance of either the Alpenrose or the Bellevue where you were there? I just noticed your point about the Alpenrose. This hotl is just around the corner from the Baren, so a bit further from the station and village. I understand that the Alpenrose is very comfortable and offers a very warm welcome. I imagine they also offer transport, which the Baren does not. |
