I'm looking at being in Chicago for one night. The cheapest fair is on United but US Airways is $10 more. Should I go ahead any pay US Airways for the flight? Even though it's on United metal? (US Silver Here)
Also, if I purchase from United...Does it count on segments/miles?
Thanks!

If it's cheaper on UA.bomb and it's UA metal, buy it there. Yes, you'll get the miles/segments provided you put your US DM# in the reservation.

About the only time it's worth it would be time of year when weather may be a factor. I daresay it's easier reaching your US Prefered line to re-book than getting things done at UA's general # in India :)

True point about the weather! One more question! Will United know my US Status?

Yes, so long as your US DM # is entered in your PNR.
Have a good trip!
If you're US Silver, fly US for the $10 more.
Free Preferred Upgrades, Move Up Fee Waived, free Exist/Preferred seat assignments, Preferred line for rebooking...totally worth the $10.

It's United metal so you won't get any of these except maybe the Move Up fee waived. Exit and Preferred Seats are in UA's E+ which won't be free for US elites. Hopefully you won't need the rebooking line :)

That can not sum it up better...pay the $10 and give it to US! Probably you will not even need them...but for $10 it is well worth pitching $10 bucks their way for your piece of mind.
I had an issue with UA the other day w/ their foreign call center and one segment was on US metal. I called US seeing how i can deal with UA better and an agent went above and beyond and altough not their problem AT ALL, they saved me big time even working with supervisors *A laisons, and inventory management. I payed an extra $30 a ticket, but was happy to give it to US who takes care of their top fliers in instances like these!
