WestJet Rewards - Using a Travel Bank service credit?

As noted in another thread, Westjet has cancelled my May flights from Atlantic City to Toronto. Bad for me because I now can't take the trip (the pricing on other airlines is absurd) and I have a non-refundable hotel deposit.

Westjet has offered to compensate us with US$100 Travel Bank credits (they won't pay my hotel deposit). Unfortunately, Westjet now has virtually no service from my area, so my ability to use the credits myself is very limited (unless they add flights in the next year). So to get any value out of these, I will probably have to trade or sell them.

Westjet assures me they are "transferable." The language is as follows:

"A Travel Bank credit has been created for you. This credit will expire one year from the original date issued. Please save this email as confirmation of the credit we have set up for you. This credit may be used for reservations through www.westjet.com or through our Sales Super Centre at 1-800-538-5696 prior to the expiry date. If you have already used your credit, thank you for choosing WestJet!"

Are there any "hidden issues" I should know about before agreeing to this compensation? I don't really see any "market" for Westjet credits out there -- I looked at flyertalk, Ebay Canada, etc. Why?

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to avoid losing money on this.

Thanks. I guess if I go that route, it would be wise to list on ebay canada? What would a $100 credit go for -- I presume at least $75? And is there any legal prohibition on selling these?

I dont think so. And the going rate I usually pay is 70-80 cents on the dollar. Sometimes they go as high as 90-95 but I dont pay that.

Yeah, the hassle/risk factor would seem to make it silly to pay more than 80 cents on the dollar.

If I conclude I can't use them, I guess I'll list them in the "coupon connection" forum first. The only thing I've ever successfully traded there though are drink certs. :) When you get to higher value stuff, it seems harder to find somebody who needs what you have and vice versa.

How much is your cert for? I may have a funeral within the next few weeks, and may need to get home. Would be interested.
