Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - Alaska Airlines App for Blackberry

Hadn't seen anyone mention the new blackberry app, but I'm sad to report that it won't load onto mine. I have a Curve 8330 (reasonably recent model) and even though the support web page suggests that it will load on my phone, the "App World" won't let me download it, saying it isn't designed for it. Anyone with an 8330 have any luck getting it working? Anyone at all get it working? Is it cool? Thanks.

I have it working on my Storm and originally installed and downloaded from the Blackberry Application World. It installed and runs fine for me. I used it a few times yesterday while traveling and am very impressed with the application overall. I have only used it for pulling up "my trips" and for checking flight status so far.

The app works well, but the suggestion has been made to have an OTA download link available from Alaskaair.com as well. Many BB users avoid App World like the plague because it's something of a memory hog.

I downloaded the app into my 8330 two days ago through App World, and it has worked very well since then. I just followed the direction on the web site, getting an email with links, and run those links with my 8330.

May be you can try again ?

Good luck !

BW- I wonder if it's a problem with Sprint? Is that who you are on? Technically my phone is the 8330"M" I wonder if that is the problem...

For what it's worth I downloaded it for my 8530 and it works fine.

My only complaint is that it can't remember by user name and that I have to type it in each time (quite a pain with my username and password)

If anyone from Alaska is reading this, I am convinced that the problem is that my phone is the "8330m" as are most of this model on Sprint. on AppWorld, they treat the 8330 and 8330m as two different models. Alaska needs to spec to AppWorld that the app will work on the 8330m or else people like me can't download it. Right now only the regular 8330 is listed.

I'm sure this is just an oversite, but it would be nice if someone could update it. Or if there is a way to download it to a third party site where I could get the app, that would be nice too.

Updating and hopefully ending this thread, the app has been converted to being available to all phones now, and I was able to download the app onto my phone!

Now, there's a few features I'd love to see added... but at least I have the app.

Is the bb app gone now? Can't seem to find it for my 9800 now :(

I had the app for my bb 9000 bold, but, when I upgraded to the Torch (9800) it no longer works. I believe this is because the app doesn't work with the bb os 6.0 software. I think the curve also runs on 6.0, so this would be the same problem.

Also, I no longer see the Alaska app in appworld.

Well I upgraded my 9000 to 6.0 and the software still worked. Sad to see it go...as I kinda like my new torch :(

Don't worry--we're slowly moving him along towards a real phone. Whereas his old Bold was straight outta 2003, his new Torch is like early 2007. Maybe someday he'll get a phone with technology from the current decade. :p

For all the improvements in the browser, the more upscale fit-and-finish of the UI, and the thoughtful changes in basic functionality, we still feel like this device is a generation behind the market. Instead of meeting the rising stars of the smartphone world (Apple and Google) head-on, RIM has taken something more like baby steps toward innovation. The company seems convinced that it's got a better idea about what its customers want and how a smartphone should act in 2010, but we can't say we agree. The Torch seems sluggish, underpowered, and dated from a hardware design standpoint, and BlackBerry 6, despite its new features and polish, still feels woefully behind the curve. To call the Torch the "best BlackBerry ever" wouldn't be an understatement, but unfortunately for RIM and the faithful, their best isn't nearly good enough.

Depends on how fast he gets rid of his Torch :p If he keeps the Torch for 2-3 years then we are back at square one again...

Beckoa will never get an Iphoney unless they add a built in keyboard, so that leaves us with HTC phones ;)

Jackal's point still remains true no matter how you think of Android and Apple.

FWIW, for those of you who aren't able to download the app, I wouldn't worry -- the mobile website is virtually identical.

For those of you who are iPhone users, just wait until you see the new iPhone app that's in development - it's awesome! ^
