Nordic Countries - Hurtigruten U.S. Web site?

View Full Version : Hurtigruten U.S. Web site?

In planning a possible trip to Norway this August (yes, we know it's expensive, that's for another thread) we've been trying to access Hurtigruten's U.S. Web site for over a week now with no success. (We've tried multiple computers, both Mac and Windows, on different networks. None of them have any trouble accessing any other site.) hurtigruten.com redirects to hurtigruten.us, which isn't there. We can get to inside pages directly, such as hurtigruten.us/norway, but they seem out of date (for instance, special discounts if you book before the end of 2009).

We can get to hurtigruten.co.uk and several other international sites, so we could theoretically book something that way, but booking from the "wrong" country often raises issues related to credit card billing addresses, offers discounts restricted to residents of that country instead of those we might be eligible for, and more. Even if it works, we'd rather not do that unless there's no alternative.

Does anyone know what's going on here? Other thoughts? (Not about the trip itself, there are enough threads on that already.)

What happens if you try hurtigruten.no?

You could ask the people responsible for the webpage: webmanager.nordic@hurtigruten.com

Try this English site:

http://hurtigruten.co.uk/?country=UK

They are obviously trying to be clever... but not succeeding!

If you type hurtigruten.com you get redirected to the web site for whatever country you happen to be in at the time (Google does this as well... it drives me absolutely crazy to find myself taken to google.pl or google.lt just because I happen to be in Poland or Lithuania!).

If, however, you type a country code instead of .com then you get taken to the web site for that country.

I can see they haven't updated the .us version (have they forgotten the .us country code exists, seeing it is so under-used?). Someone has already suggested hurtigruten.co.uk, but hurtigruten.ca is probably your best bet as it's nearer! (I've tried it and it's got 2010 information on it)

If you type hurtigruten.com you get redirected to the web site for whatever country you happen to be in at the time (Google does this as well... it drives me absolutely crazy to find myself taken to google.pl or google.lt just because I happen to be in Poland or Lithuania!)...Go to google.com/ncr (for "No Country Redirect") and you'll get their main (U.S.) site from anywhere. Trying that with Hurtigruten, unfortunately, doesn't work: Error 404, Page Not Found.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far! We'll try them.
