Caribbean - Caribbean condo or house vacation?

We are looking for a condo / house for two couples and three kids aged 4, 2 and 1 for mid-April. It would be preferable to be oceanfront or very short walk to the Ocean. Off the beaten track is good (out islands of the Bahamas maybe but not Atlantis). We'd look at say the Westin condos in St. John though. Sorry but I've been so used to hotels so this is all new to me. I've looked through VRBO, Redweek etc. but I'm having trouble figuring out good reviews what's a good value. Thoughts? Anyone have favorite homes / condos you've been to or would recommend?

i would search bvi. it is off the beaten track(although cruise ships now park there), and near a beach. i have never rented a house there, but would if so inclined, or would rent a cottage at peter island.

i prefer bvi and its' islands to st thomas or st john.
