Hello everyone, a couple of years back I used Priceline succesfully to do my reservations for my European Delivery. I used name your own price!!! Last year I tried to use it again to book a hotel in NYC and it would not go through, I called them and they told me I was on a State Department list of people whom not to do business with. I google State Dpt and my name and there is a person in there that has many aliases including my name.
I asked Priceline what can I do to change the situation and they said they get the list from the State Department and it has to be updated. I tried just last week to do another reservation and I am still block. I need to be unlock because I will be going to Europe in august and want to use Priceline.
Try adding/changing a middle initial if it's a hotel rez.

Did I understand this right? There exists a publicly accessible list of people with whom the US Department of State prohibits American companies to do business? I'd like to take a look at that. Can you post a link?

The State Department puts together the largest part of a list that the Treasury Department then enforces.

Shadownite,
I'm wondering if just your personal Priceline account was blocked or if Priceline is prohibited from selling a room to anyone with your name.
Is a friend or relative able to reserve a room in your name using their own Priceline account?

just make up a new last name (surname) for priceline and you will be fine, at least for hotels. i do this all the time with htoels.com, etc. then i just show my credit card when i check in. if the clerk happens to care about the name discrepancy on the CC vs the reservation, they may ask for ID but then you are ok. this has happened only once or twice to me. you could always say that is your maiden name or whatever.

While it may work, it may not be the best of ideas as hotels in some places have made a fuss before when such things have been done. [This has come up before since some people try that as part of a way in order to re-bid for rooms instead of waiting until the next day to try again.]
Instead of attempting to make up a new last name or whatever, it's less of an issue to: combine the first name and middle name in the first name field and maintain the last name as is on ID and/or card being used for payment; or to simply enter the first name in the last name field and the last name in the first name field; or using initials and combining the middle name and last name by hyphenating the middle and last name into a combination while keeping the same first name.
Also consider that these US government blacklists restricting transactions by US persons/companies with blacklisted persons/entities are also applicable to hotel properties owned and/or operated by US persons and companies.
