This hotel shows up a lot on Orbitz as a cheap NYC alternative so I'm writing a report. Stay was 2/27-2/28
Location: The hotel is located on Hillside Avenue and 164th Street in Queens. It's a few blocks from the 169th Street Station on the F train. The neighborhood is decent, I walked back to the hotel at 1:45 AM and didn't feel unsafe, though there weren't any good eateries nearby that I saw. There was a NYPD Borough Command Center parked accross the street and police officers were the lobby a few times, however.
Hotel: The building is pleasant looking and newer, although very narrow. The lobby is small and cramped with a small breakfast area and the floors only have about six rooms each. There is a single elevator but I had no problems with wait time for it.
Check In: No line when I arrived and the people at the desk were extremly helpful. However, I was given a key to room 604 and when I arrived there was a Do Not Disturb sign and the key didn't work. After returning to the lobby and explaining this I was told "you're wrong, that is your room". When I insisted I couldn't enter it, they looked at the computer, admitted their error and put me in 704. I was a bit miffed that they would tell me I was wrong.
Room: As I mentioned above, the hotel is narrow so the room was not very large. It had a king bed, small bureau and dresser instead of a closet and a flat screen TV. There was also a small desk by the window which gave me a view of Hillside Avenue. The bathroom was also small but the shower was of a decent size with good water pressure
Other: Breakfast was offered from 6-10 but I did not partake as I was up late. I didn't realize check out time was at 11 and I recieved a rude call at 11:15 saying "sir, your check out time has passed". My mistake.
My rate was $71.99 with a AAA discount. I wouldn't mind staying here again as the hotel was the best Ramada I've stayed at. However, the location means it's about a 45 minute subway ride to Manhattan as there is only one line serving the nearest station and trains are infrequent. Though the Q3 bus to JFK stops right outside which could be very helpful.
