Just checked if the dates were set up yet while I'm waiting for my flight here in Austin after the BBQ DO here, and the site is up and running.

I'm not even sure I can be in town for it, but I have been since it got started and it's a gas if the weather cooperates. However, it's grown so popular now that you really need the Fast Pass to avoid killing waits in line by each pitmaster. Great way to try Q styles from around the country.

So, can't promise to organize anything due to my upcoming travels out of the city, but would be happy to meet up with folks there and elsewhere if we're in town at the same time.

Here's the link to the Block Party:

BTW, the Fast Passes do sell out, and may not be available at the last minute.

Given the late date now, if you've bought a Fast Pass and are willing to share it with anyone below, send in your name and I'll list this. You all can then sort out time and place to meet

Darn, this is the same weekend as the Brooklyn Reality Tour (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/communitybuzz/1048364-10th-annual-brooklyn-reality-tour-saturday-june-12-2010-a.html?); otherwise, I'd be very interested. It would be cruel to take BBQ on my flight home on that Sunday... :D

You can certainly do this on Sunday... that is, if you can still eat. :p

FYI, when this first began several years ago, the lines were brutal.

Absolutely can be done on Sunday. It happens both days, and they open up the lines around 11AM.

The Fast Pass is the way to go, especially with sharing the cost with others. There's a separate line system behind the pitmasters for Fast Pass holders, and the longest I've ever had to wait to be served is 15 minutes. The public lines, where you pay for each item separately as you get them, can be over an hour.

Keep in mind that you get in a separate line for each pitmaster, so if you want to try a couple of places, portions are smaller than you'd get in the actual establishment at its home location, you wait in line by each one. Fast Pass makes that go much more smoothly. In the past, you could also use the Fast Pass to buy books, bottles of sauce or rubs, t-shirts, caps, etc. Also, they've sometimes included 2 free seminars with a Past Pass.

Certainly, getting started when the lines open up is less crowded than later in the afternoon. Last year, despite the brutal heat, the lines in the public area were monstrous.

Wow, just a few blocks from my apartment! I can't commit yet, but I'll keep it in mind.

Additionally, some of the better trucks run out of their BBQ by mid afternoon, making getting the pass even more important.

Yes, some trucks do run through their food, especially by late Sunday.

I supposed, as tommy777 did, folks should add whether they can make it both days, or one of the days. If you're going on the BRT on Saturday, put that down as well, so you all know who's gonna be there Sunday.

Well, as it turns out, I won't be able to make this event, despite posting about it. I'm producing an Irish play, "Why Men Cheat", and we have some performances just outside of Dublin through that weekend. We're headed to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August, from the 5th till the 30th, so I'll probably post about being there for the month and see if anyone drops in during the run there.

So sorry to be missing it. 1st time that's happened since it started.

I must be insane for considering a FIFTH event for that weekend....

Just saw this, went to the website, so sad, fast pass sold out, planning on going anyways. Does anyone know if they will sell anymore fast passes?

From NYC
May 24, 10, 2:15 am
They used to sell them on site on the day. However, haven't seen that the last 2 years.

A Fast Pass is more than one person can eat, usually, over 2 days, so it might be possible for folks to share the cost on one, especially if they can only be there one day.

Tommy 777, above, stated that he bought a Fast Pass and could only make it on Saturday. Perhaps you can split the cost and the benefit with him? The Passes are good for both days, so even if you couldn't make it Saturday, you could still use the remainder on his pass on Sunday.

Added this to the 1st post, but thought I'd do this as a bump of sorts:

If you already have a Fast Pass and are willing to share it, cost or cost-free, with others who didn't, let me know and I'll post it at the top so you all will know. Then it'll be up to you to sort out date and time to meet.
