For years, Dallas Love has been one of the only major airports in the country with no airside Starbucks, Seattles Best, etc. Only the McDonalds offers a semi-drinkable cup.

Now comes this news:

After years of limited dining and retail options at Dallas Love Field, city officials released ambitious plans this week for an expanded menu as part of the airport's $519 million overhaul.

And the new chow will have a decidedly Texas feel. Dallas-based Chili's, long the main dining option at Love, will be joined by the Tex-Mex chain On the Border, and other fare could include Whataburger and even Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse.
...
Food and retail space will increase by nearly 60 percent on "opening day" of the airport's state-of-the-art, 20-gate concourse, expected at the end of 2014. The first stage of the remodeled terminal will open in late 2012 with 12 gates.
...
Other confirmed spots include Starbucks and Quiznos

Great! That will be nice, Love field is a bit of a dump now. As I use it more on COex over on the AA/CO forgotten finger side the tiny bar there is even worse. It will be nice to have a few options, even if most are chains.

Look at Hobby as a general model. Hobby was a dump and now the airside is outstanding (landside is being redone). Southwest must be thrilled to have both huge Texas "hubs" ;-) rebuilt like that.

Ciao,
FH
