Just received the latest issue of Grand Rapids magazine, and they had the listing for the Top 10 Restaurants. So if anyone gets to GR & is looking for a place to eat/wine/dine, here you go...

Restaurant of the Year: Leo's, 60 Ottawa Ave (evidently just edged out the 1913 Room, and the 2 go back/forth each year on winning the top slot).

Fine Dining Award of Excellence: The 1913 Room, 187 Monroe Ave NW

Fine Dining Award of Excellence: The Chop House, 190 Monroe Ave NW

Fine Dining Award of Excellence: Cygnus 27, 187 Monroe Ave NW

Casual Dining Award of Excellence: Rose's, 550 Lakeside Drive SE
* Sharon's note: I've eaten at Rose's. Quite like it. It's located on Reeds Lake in East Grand Rapids.

Casual Dining Award of Excellence: Blue Water Grill, 5180 Northland Drive

Casual Dining Award of Excellence: Great Lakes Shipping Co., 2455 Burton St SE

Ethnic Dining Award of Excellence--Mexican, Central/South American: Maggie's Kitchen, 636 Bridge St NW

Ethnic Dining Award of Excellence--Asian: XO Asian Cuisine, 58 Monroe Center NW

Ethnic Dining Award of Excellence--European: Tre Cugini, 120 Monroe Center NW

Cheers.

Big fan of the Blue Water Grill. Nice to see it gets some good pub. :)

A lot of the same restaurants year after year. I don't know if that's because they are just that good year after year or if those chosing the awards don't get out much. There are some great places around town other than what's on that list! I will be in GR tomorrow night for business - Marcos for us!

I like a lot of the restaurants in The B.O.B. across from Van Andel. Gilly's & Judsons are both very nice.

Honey Creek Inn in Cannonsburg just north of GR is great for real good food in a more laid-back environment.

Another personal favorite is the HopCat, just down from Van Andle arena. They have like 60+ microbrew beers on tap, and don't charge cover. A great place to hit up after dinner and have many good drinks. ^

Hey I just reported what was written! Given I've been in MI for 6 mths & not much in GR I'm not the be-all/end-all, but thought others would like some recommendations, so posted what was listed. Granted, regardless of what city/state, there will always be some top of the line & a lot of local places/favs that get left out, but sometimes they do it right. I like Rose's for example & for the category they're correct. But I received a PM sev mths ago from an FTer looking for an upscale place & had I known about the list, I could have just linked to it. Hmm, 60 microbrews - too bad I'm just a boring Stella gal.

Cheers.

OMG, how did I forget SanChez - one of our favorites~

Old Chicago is pretty cool too, especially if you like beer!

To the OP, nothing against your posting, it's just there seems to be no originality by the authors when compiling those lists. I don't believe the person has been anywhere new or different. The same restaurants appear year after year, though there are many great and different places out there.

One of my new favorites in GRR!
The ONLY drawback at this place is that it can get crowded. This is, I suppose, a good thing in that the food is great and the draw will keep it in business.

In GRR as I type (actually Wayland, and then Rockford)...any recommendations for a steak house that won't kill the entire expense budget...trying to avoid chains (Outback, Logan's).

Back to the OP's original list: the 1913 Room is temporarily closed. It is supposed to reopen as a Ruth Chris.'
