MCI-MSY starts 5/20
MCI-CMH starts 5/2
These are the two MCI markets I'd heard were coming back in May which I alluded to in an earleir post, but with the changable schedule I didn't think it was a safe bet until it was announced.
Good news for MCI! They must have thought they were the forgotten step child down there for awhile. I also see that Republic is putting in an order for 40 Bombardier CSeries Aircraft with an option for 40 more!

I guess we have different sources, knope :D My understanding was that MSY and PIT were to be the two route announcements from MCI.
The MCI-CMH schedule is interesting. One flight per day (except Saturday's) on an E190. That's a lot of capacity for a route like that. I guess it all comes down to how tight the current aircraft schedules are. In any event, it wouldn't surprise me to see the equipment down-gauged/frequency increased at a later date.
As it relates to future route announcements, Bryan Bedford's latest letter to employees mentioned some possible international flying beginning winter 2010/2011. Maybe MKE will finally get several routes to some winter resort destinations from Midwest/Frontier on a scheduled basis.

That is a lot of capacity for a route like that. Are they rotating aircraft in there for maintenance or what?

The Midwest interactive route map shows CMH-MCI connections to Seattle and New Orleans, but if flown today connections could also be made to LA and San Francisco. Columbus passengers can choose to fly through Milwaukee if the timing is better. Sounds like a good route to me.

It's not that MCI-CMH will be a bad route, but operating it with a daily E190 is not a great schedule and is simply too much capacity.
The route will do much better being flown 2x daily with smaller equipment. I suspect that will happen at some point.

Getting an E190 to a MX base (Columbus) is definitely part of the equation. Not a lot of aircraft overnight in Milwaukee, and so they are always looking to get aircraft to overnight at stations with an mx base.
Also, Midwest already does a fair amount of connection business from Columbus to the west, and this will dovetail nicely with connections to LAS, SFO, SEA, and DEN. Were it not for the connections and not for the MX base in Columbus, a smaller aircraft would more likely fit the bill.

Do you remember Skybus has flies from CMH-MCI nonstop by few years ago before it was cease operations due to losing the money. So unfortunatley, SX didn't workout very well. It will be very extremely difficulties time to losing the money due to high cost of the fuel. SX has been shutdowni due to the trouble the money.
