Wow, that IS a good one! Thanks for sharing. Just re-booked my long weekend Budget rental in DFW. Surprisingly, the rate was also better than what I had previously booked.

It will up your 5000 to 7500 Delta miles per rental if you have 3 qualifying activities before the end of April.

Not sure about those but when I used a similiar Avis one (remember same co owns both) the $ off invalidated the miles. Check your T&C.

I just had my last week's budget 5k promo reservation into my delta account today. I don't know if it's a weekly sweep or a monthly sweep at this point since this is my first use of this promo.

SRODR:

My understanding is that the 50% bonus applies to the base miles only, and not to the bonus... So that would be 100 miles + 50% = 150 miles, for a total of 5150 miles per rental.

I HOPE I AM WRONG though ;)

I don't know what makes you think this. The terms say: "Once you meet the minimum threshold, you will receive a 50% bonus for all hotel, car and ground transportation activity during the promotion period (including the three transactions needed to reach the threshold). "

So I see no reason that all miles earned won't get the 50% bonus.

The 50% bonus is posting WITHOUT the minimum threshold. I got it on my first and second rental, both of which posted this past week and week prior. I'm only showing two rentals (two partner activities) and no other activity since last year, so that proves it. I know at least one other FTer has had the same show in their account.

YMMV of course.

As far as the end of promotion, Delta states 4/30/2010 while Budget states 3/31/2010. I guess be careful about booking this after the end of the month.

I completed two rentals this past weekend and have a big problem, they screwed up my skymiles account.
Called Budget to ask, they said call Delta.
So I did, Delta said they have not received any miles from Budget, contact them.
Any advice on who to go after? Both parties try to blame each other.

First off, if as you say you had the rentals "this past weekend" and are expecting that they should already be posted in your Delta account, you need to return to reality, without stopping at GO. They don't post THAT fast.

Second, if you do ultimately experience no miles in your Delta account as a result of your Budget rentals, the problem (my son) is at Budget, not Delta. Forget calling Delta.

Cheers...

I'm making the BCD and coupon work through April. The Budget page now says the 5,000 mi. is good through 5/31/10. If DL's 1.5 multiplier is good through 4/31, Woot! :D

https://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/html/en/partners/partners/delta5000.html

And it looks like you can do this over and over and over again, two days at a pop for 7,500 mi., with Budget. There aren't any distribution requirements in DL's t&c.

You either rented from a location that doesn't participate to this promotion or the promo code was not correctly entered. All my receipts have shown the 5K + whatever other miles I have earned.

BTW there has been a dump this morning to my Delta account. Five or six recent rentals just posted.

The invoice in their computer shows both bcd and coupon according to csr, and its a place i rent from often, so they participate, but mine concern could be is that i was charged for a 2 days rental, but I only had the car for 27 hours, which is 3 hours past the 2 hr into the second day. So i need to decide to rent again this weekend.

I am siting on several hundred K of DL miles acquired exclusively through promos such as this one. I have not been able to redeem anything internationally over the last 2 years while I spent at least half-million of AA and UA miles (of course my interests and travel pattern may not be similar to yours). Unless you can find sub-0.5c/mi rates i wouldn't bother but of course YMMV.

You're welcome, Fargos. :)

A more general open question: How's it working these days to try to short-circuit online frustrations by calling and citing the BCDs and coupons to a CSR? Anyone still do it the old fashioned way by calling first? With Budget in particular? I really am asking, and by no means nudging to say that anyone should have done so. Thank you.

I'm just in enough of a rut with doing things online, operating on the now-subconscious premise that it's more efficient, that the telephone alternative only comes to mind if there's already been an occurrence that's going to cost me a lot of money unless I straighten it out.

BTW, for the record, so far this round, all my DL 7,500s have come in like clockwork, to my absolute astonishment. :)

And to my continued astonishment. Eight (x 7,500) have posted in my DL account. One more to go. After my grousing, along with many others, about the Where2 promo debacle, I just want to be here with the ^ when things work.

...Well, almost (maybe) and this isn't a complaint: If you did this promo, and also registered with DL for the "x 1.5" promo, did you get the 2,500 bonus - in addition to the 5,000 - on your first rental? I didn't.

Nevvver mind. The last (er, first) 2,500 turned up today. I just can't believe I'm not going to have a single fight across eight rentals. Budget?! Not the Budget of year-end 2008.

But never being sanguine, I wonder how/why this latter occurrence happened. I can't imagine that I have an angel at either Budget or Delta who goes back and cleans up any discrepancies. Any thoughts? OK, save the reply, which is probably, "Chill". :o

Thank you. No, I didn't notice the +1,000 promo. Whsht! (Insert smiley with flat hand crossing top head...) Nearly all the miles posted within a few days, probably by the next sweep. The 2,500 for the earliest one in the series came in, let's see... 28 days later. The 5,000 and miscellaneous actual charges for the first one showed up as quickly as for each of the rest. ED: Wait, not exactly true, as I was just pegging it from the official post, which is per the start of the rental. The first rental was a week, so the 2,500 posted ~ three weeks after the rental. I hope I'm not putting too many words into this...

Yeah. Might even be worthy of an announcement thread of its own. I was just glad to learn accidentally that it was out of this promotion before I got all the way to the counter...

But my main reason for ringing in now is to remind those who might have experienced one of those mind things, as I did, that it's the 5,000 mi. promo that continues until 5/31/10. It's the DL 1.5 multiplier that doesn't (and still doesn't). Coming up on the end of April, I was just checking on both to see if "the dream goes on", and was glad to see that it does. Just not so much. I had thought I would be back to Alamo for their "5x SW RR Credits", but I think I'll stick around for more DL miles. 5,000 mi. for $45 a/i and a car I need anyway is still good enough leverage for me.

Shame that DL has ended the 1.5x promo at least a day early, or at least by 2:00pm ET. Or did "expires April 30, 2010" mean that it already would be expired before today? Was hoping to start one more weekend rental today under it. But with the way that DL has silently ended promotions (or tried to ;)) much earlier in their term, I guess one shouldn't even hope. Unless one is girded for combat.

Found some great rates at BOS. (Total 2-day Fri to Sun rental $58 to $64)

Called Budget since bonus miles from April 9 - 11 rental had not posted (and others here had suggested miles posting faster). Budget customer service rep said that the miles post in 60 to 90 days and to call back is they hadn't posted by then.

Do bonus miles take longer to post depending on rental location?

randix

Budget's "customer service" department... you have just entered a new world of fantasy...their first line of defense (remember, it's them vs. you) is ALWAYS that it takes 90 days for miles to post (someone must have been in a good mood if they told you 60 - 90 days!). You have reached the fork in the road where you are about to learn if you are subservient to the ugly beast, or if you have anything left at this point in your life to fight the dragon. But hey, maybe they will post after the infamous 90 days, and maybe my hair will grow back. All I know is, if they don't post within a couple of weeks, they won't post (hey, that's my experience). But thanks to Budget, you just don't "qualify" to complain unless 90 days pass, regardless...of course, at that point you enter their second level of fantasy...

My last one, at BOS, took eight days. All my California ones took a few days (except for the 2500 on the first one as I reported above). Probably all were at the following sweep. Except for that one 2500 anomaly, base and bonus posted at the same time.

For what's it is worth, I just did a one way Fla dump off for the 5k deal. My receipt has the miles on it... just waiting for those points to hit my SkyMiles account.

If it works and the pts hit my account then this is a nice little FF grab for those in Florida. I managed to do a 3 segmented one way flight home on Delta that should bundle everything up rather nicely. 3 segments, 1,100 miles flown, 5k from Budget... 6,100k with ticket, rental and gas, $145. Not too bad... and only about 10 hours in total spent from pick up to touchdown back in PBI.

Firewind

So, where did you drop it off? What was the daily base rate?

I hadn't really focused on the aspect that the agencies are getting their cars ferried without having to pay the fuel costs of driving or trucking for any car we take. I mean, of course it's true that they're getting the service. Just hadn't thought about that big savings for the agencies.

I noticed their $15/weekend day compact (BCD R222505) is stacking with the 5,000-mile Delta coupon. Will do that in MYR, even though Alamo was pricing cheaper after other coupons.

Also have an Alamo booking for the Florida one-way bit (PBI to ATL) at $29 all-in for 5 days in a midsize (as it stacked with weekly discount deals and a 15% off code), but will see if Budget has an alternative in somewhat the same ballpark that can also do the miles.

So, my wife and I went at the end of March to Banff for our 5th anniversary. I decided to rent from Budget at the Calgary Intl Airport to take advantage of the 5,000 mile bonus with Delta. I specifically asked at the counter if they would accept and honor that coupon. I was told yes. I was then told that if I took the car out of Alberta, I would be charged extra per rental day for that privilege. UGH! That should have told me there was a problem. I went on with the transaction.

As I was leaving the car rental building, I walked past the Avis counter and decided to see what they could do for a price. They came in $10 lower than Budget but I wouldn't get the 5,000 Delta SkyMiles. I am President's Club/Avis First but decided that $10 for 5,000 miles was worth it. Avis did not charge a fee to take the car out of the province but they were still higher, so I felt I was getting a good deal. I left with the Budget car.

So, I had not received my miles so I decided to call Budget Customer Service. "They are an independent rental agency and do not honor Delta promos.". That was the reply from Budget CS. No recourse at all! I also got hosed by the Budget counter in Calgary. I told them my flight time, an asked about the best place to get gas near the airport at that time in the morning. They gave me a location. The morning we were headed back to the airport, we left with plenty of time to get there and be way early. There was a wreck on the way so we were delayed. When we got to the gas station, IT WAS CLOSED! At this point we didn't have time to find another one, so we took it in with 3/4 of a tank of gas. We got charged $9 per liter!

So, moral of the story. If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Lesson number two - the Budget counter at the Calgary Airport will LIE TO YOU!

BTW, there is an existing thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/budget/1054337-q1-2010-delta-5000-mile-2-day-rental.html)discussing this promotion.

Yes, I did put the coupon in when I made the reservation. It showed as being accepted. I asked at the counter if they would accept it and the rep said yes. When I called Budget Customer Service to check the status, I was told the location only accepts Air Canada coupons. I was told this by Budget CS, not the location. This coupon worked in HI at both KOA and LIH. Just had 5,000 each plus 50/day post (plus Delta 50% bonus on top of that as they were at the end of April). Neither receipt showed the miles, but they both used old dot matrix printers inside to give receipts (no handheld scanner lot receipts). Both are corporate locations.

The receipts that are printed using these old matrix printers does most definitely show the number of miles earned as well.

Dear kcool and fellow flyertalk members,

I've been a long time lurker, and this is my first post. Have learnt a lot of great tips from this site, and I was just tempted to weigh in on the Calgary budget experience.

I had the exact same experience when I rented at the Calgary airport Budget location few weeks back. The only reason I made the reservation with Budget was due to the Delta promotion, and was pretty sure they accept the coupon since if I played around with not putting the coupon code, the price went down.

So I did the 5 day rental, got receipt, and after 4 weeks I call Budget to find out exact same thing - that the Calgary airport location doesn't participate...end of discussion!

Kcool - I share your sentiments, I'm never renting from Budget again...simply because apart from this experience, I've read many horror stories in this forum, and don't trust them to award the miles/points without the follow-up, and it's simply not worth it, especially with so many other car rental companies offering better service at lower cost.

That's it folks, my first post at flyertalk, the community I love, and unfortnuately it was a rant, hope to share some better experiences in the future.

What I was wondering is, if I elect to pay for my budget rental through the skymiles market place. Do I still qualify to earn the 5k bonus miles for the rental.

example: a 2 day rental in pdx is 11274 miles (or ~$112)

If I had paid cash that would earn me 5000 bonus miles plus 100 rental miles

If I can pay with miles the 11274 millage cost would actually only be, 6174

Cant find anything in the T&C's, however, if it's anything like the pay-with-miles option for flight, I wold assume the answer is no.

I equate purchasing hotels/car rentals with miles to priceline/hotwire. With priceline/hotwire, I don't believe coupons for bonus miles can be applied, right?

When using PL or HW for car rentals I have never had success trying to apply a coupon code.

Well, that explains why my Delta 5K bonus haven't posted yet for my Budget rental at YYC. I rented car from Budget YYC April 22 thru May 1. I specifically added the coupon code when I reserved it and if YYC was not a valid participant you'd think it would not accept the coupon.

Did you get the zombie woman at the check in / out desk who didn't say two words, couldn't hear her and appeared to hate her job?

I only used Budget because of this promo. How on earth are we to know when a location is not participating? As far as I remember, the deal said all airport locations in Canada and the US... teaches me to remember to print the deal, which I didn't this time... I'm pissed.

Going to Banff for a long Memorial Day weekend and reserved a rental car thru Budget at the YYC airport. Because I didn't provide a credit card for the reservation, I can cancel and go with another agency. If Budget YYC sucks that bad, they aren't worth 5,000 DL miles anyway.

That really sucks. Avis/Budget will probably not make the valid locations more transparent. Sometimes I have to wonder if they are only concerned with business and not repeat business. Why else would they set themselves up to be blackballed by frustrated customers.

But in keeping with full disclosure (on my part, obviously not on Budget's part) the ad copy (https://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/html/en/partners/partners/delta5000.html) reads "at participating Budget airport locations in the U.S. and Canada."

For the record I posted the T&C for the Budget promo in that thread at mile marker #226 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/14002840-post226.html) for those that might need to fight for their miles.

I did print out the terms and conditions. It has that one little word that seals the deal - PARTICIPATING!

You would think that all of them would participate just to get business and then have someone actually come back for repeat business. NoOooo.

I didn't have zombie lady - I had a little short man, who I wish I remembered his name because he said, in reply to my question, "Yes, we will honor the coupon." My gut told me to stick with Avis (I'm an Avis First member, so I rent from them a lot).

Live and learn.

I specifically asked her to ensure the coupon code was input and accepted and double checked my skymiles number was also included. Both were. If the coupon is not valid at certain locations, it should not work on the reservation. I feel the bait and switch. Will never use Budget again. Ever.

I also have an outstanding YYC Budget res missing the 5,000 bonus (and the 150 base, for that matter).

That being said, I've had nothing but good experiences with all the Budget locations in YYC - airport and neighbourhood. The return guys at the airport are great... and the rates at the local locations (no miles, of course) with airport return is often cheaper than cab/parking at YYC.

I was considering fighting for the miles, but perhaps given everyone's experiences, I should just abandon all hope.

Had a 2 day rental with budget out of DCA airport may 20th - 22nd, used the pay online feature and was charged 41.74 with taxes. After returning the car was hit with approx $8 fee for tax on ff miles. Is this normal, should this have appeared in the original charges since my skymiles number and bcd code were on there?

Anyone else get this charge, $8 on a $41 rental seems a bit high for a tax.

Yep. I had separate rentals over consecutive weekends out of MYR, both bookd on the $15/weekend day BCD with the DL miles coupon also in the reservation.

The first weekend, over May 15, it was a 3-dayer and I was only charged the 75 cent/day surcharge, totaling $2.25. FF miles earned showed correctly at 5,150 on the final printout.

The second weekend, just a week later and at the same location, I had a 2-dayer with the same BCD and coupon combo. The reservation printout estimated $47.71 a-i but actual was $56.14 a-i. In combing the final printout on the second, I notice the 75-cent line item isn't there and instead is replaced by "7.5% tax on FF miles" totaling $6.57! Not only that, but in MYR that amount and all costs imposed by the car-rental company are subject to a 15.5% tax (They also charge $4/day).

So they may have changed how they do it. If so, they need to program the website to give more accurate estimates, rather than treating mileage recovery costs as an unpredictable but nominal expense.

This FF tax really doesn't make any sense. It is not disclosed anywhere during the reservation process. Where the 7.5% is based on? It is $6.57 on my most recent receipt.

What is the definition of "2 day rental"?

Renting 1 day and 3 hours will result the same rate for renting 2 days as the daily rate is cheaper than paying 3 x hourly rate most of the time.
So, renting 1 day and 3 hours is considered as 2 day rental or not?

According to my math, they claim to pay 1.717 cents/mile. My result is as follows:

(5100 miles)(.075)(x) = $6.57 where "x" cents/mile. x = 1.717 cents/mile

I would hope that the budget location honored the price on the printout.

Boy, do I miss it. Now struggling to pick up a few hundred AA or UA miles for Avis or Budget rentals, which I make most every week.

(yes, there are some better offers out there, but they require that you use the airline's AWD code, which I cannot do for work rentals. One of the beauty of the big Delta offers was they let you use your own AWD).

Boy do I miss the good old days of this offer. I used it about 15 times.

Which offers are requiring you to use a specific airline AWD? For that matter AWDs are useless for a Budget promo. Did you mean to say BCD?

The current US Airways 3K bonus from Avis (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/us-airways-dividend-miles/1039530-3000-bonus-miles-3-day-rental-avis-until-3-31-2011-a.html) does not require one to use the US AWD. I'm living proof. But I didn't gamble on this. It was clearly printed in the T&C for the promo: "Offer may not be used with any other coupon, promotion or offer except your AWD discount." And when you combine it with the 50% Summer Blockbuster promo (http://shopping.usairways.com/promotion/dividendmiles/registration.aspx?PromoCode=SB10) from US it gets even better.

You can get 1000 bonus CO miles from Budget (https://www.continental.com/web/en-US/apps/onepass/promotions/registrationDetails.aspx?promoCode=A8162) and the T&C specifically say "Offer may not be used in conjunction with any other coupon, promotion or offer except your BCD discount." This specific line is in most of the T&C section of Budget promotions. I can't remember the last time I used an airline's BCD (or AWD).

Check out the thread Q2 2010 Car Rental Bonus Promos! (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milesbuzz/1067811-q2-2010-car-rental-bonus-promos.html). There is little reason to accept even 100 miles per day. Last night I returned an Avis rental that I booked through autoslash.com for a price better than I could get using any of my AWD or BCD codes. I was a little worried that their AWD might exclude me from earning miles. When I saw the FF surcharge on my return receipt I was partially relieved. Then I checked my email and got the updated receipt from Avis I saw FF MLS/PNTS EARNED 3256. My relief was 100% of course. Cha ching!

Hey Evan:

I think I was mostly bumming about the 3000-mile Continental offer with Avis, which is invalid if made with any other AWD code. *Which is why I had AWD on the mind.) I've got a rental that would qualify for the 3K bonus (and other shorter ones) but needs to be made thru corporate travel and that requires the corporate AWD.

http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/booking/car/carAvisPromo.aspx?camp=ADHC&campyear=2010&sender=EMAIL_MKTG&language=EN&description=Avis-Saved-Traveler

That is of course Avis rather than Budget and this is the Budget site, but often we're comparing offers from these 2 corporate sisters. And I thought there was another one but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the good info on the Budget one, though; I'll look into that. You are always a great source of info.

I collect US miles when I can't collect decent DL bonuses. Since they (US) are part of *A I am hoping to use their miles for another carrier. But I too don't want to p.o. any US Airways fans.

You are right about the CO promo (not that you needed me to tell you that). It is a shame that they require a specific AWD.

It was even better during Delta's Stay, Drive, Ride promotion. That 5K became 7.5K. But at the moment there are no big-K Delta promos for car rentals.

Avis has a 3K bonus of US Div Miles (http://www.avis.com/car-rental/content/display.ac?contentId=usair-preferred2010-US_en-015962&MID=avis.com_usairpreferred2010) through March 2011 for a 3-day rental. With US's current Summer Blockbuster promotion (http://shopping.usairways.com/promotion/dividendmiles/registration.aspx?PromoCode=SB10) you can turn that into 4.5K per 3-day rental until July 31.
